Stepping into lux boundaries was almost like a death wish. Yet, he had to do this. Going home was only natural for someone to do, and besides, he needed to get something. Even if this was lux territory. Even if it was going to get him killed. This war was far too young for him to die so soon, he thought with a grim smile to himself as he walked along the pavements of the city. The people hadn't changed much. He knew some of them by sight, some by name. This woman was from that house, this one had two children ...
He averted his thoughts. Sinking back into past recollections was like playing with water. Fun, amusing, refreshing even, but he could drown in it if he went too far. Steven had no intention of doing so. Chain, his mawile, trotted by his side happily, her arms crossed as she glanced around the city. She hadn't seen this place in some time. One of her hands moved to stop her trainer; he did, glancing down at her, then across the road.
It was a large building.
Familiar? Hell yes. Steven twitched almost noticeably behind his generally calm face. His hands moved to straighten the coat he had on most of the time. The structure was rather tall, easily one of the tallest in the city itself. It had a large compound, framed by iron gates and pavements a shade lighter than the ones outside its boundaries. He remembered playing on them as a child, messing with stones (fossils?) far too valuable for a young boy to use as a plaything. The man glanced away.
"Not now, Chain," he told her, "I think this isn't the right time to do such a thing." The mawile only tugged at him more. "True. I am going back." Why not face it now? He didn't know. Reluctance had its firm grip on his muscles, stopping him from moving. The light-haired wanderer crossed his arms, then bent down to the yellow creature's level and placed a hand on her head.
"Maybe tomorrow. For now, we go back."
