The past half-hour seemed like nothing but a dream. The last thing she could clearly distinguish as reality was sitting in a bar with a drink by herself. She’d come to quell some of her thoughts about the war, and least expected it when the Johto Champion Lance slid in across from her. The small talk they’d made had been similar to what she expected between friends although they scarcely knew each other. The past fifteen minutes had been spent with the two Nox trainers locked in battle of epic proportions. Lance had chosen his Charizard to take a stand against Flygon. Powerful, blisteringly hot fire-type attacks had been exchanged back and forth between the two pokemon, as well as parrying Dragon-type moves. Flygon had let loose the trick up his sleeve – Rock Slide – in what Alyssa had thought would be too much of a surprise for the Charizard to handle. She’d been proven terribly wrong. Charizard had countered, the Blaze ability it carried activating, making the fire-type techniques it used more intense. Dangerous, but also a sign it was growing weaker. Flygon had called the Charizard to the skies and they faced off as well, the two pokemon locking the other in combat. Up, up, and up their battle had gone, causing both the red-eyed Dragon Master and Alyssa to look up and squint to see their pokemon against the autumn night sky. The only way they had been seen fighting in the sky by the two trainers below was thanks to the blazing flame on Charizard’s tail. The pair had circled the moon in a final, artful spar before Flygon took the match into his own claws, being too high above the heads of the trainers to hear any commands. He’d done something drastic – not even using a technique he knew against the Charizard – and tackled the larger flying pokemon out of the air. He’d slammed his body into the Charizard’s, full force against its back and between its wings. The two pokemon were a tangle of wings and claws now, and they spiraled downwards towards a large body of water beside their trainers. Alyssa’s eyes widened in shock as the two pokemon plummeted towards the shining liquid. She wanted to shout out of concern for her pokemon. He was battling like he used to in the old days – so she knew both he and the Charizard would both be okay. There would be no powerful, unrestrained blows as though she were fighting on the front lines of the war with him. Still, the thought of her Flygon and the Charizard hitting the water at such a high speed was a bit daunting. A massive splash of water broke through the quiet night, which had previously only been accented by the growls and roars of the pokemon above and the shimmering crystalline water rose in the air as the pokemon broke through the previously calm surface, submerging their bodies entirely. ”Flygon!” her voice was more surprised than worried, and she allowed herself to walk quickly to the edge of the water, no more than fifteen feet away. Staring into the depths of the water, she saw nothing until the pokemon both broke the surface of the water. They were both kept afloat thanks to the buoyancy of their bodies, but otherwise they were both knocked out, Flygon included. The move he’d used had been a double-edged sword, seeing as he would need to stay locked with Lance’s Charizard to drive the larger pokemon into the water without fail. ”Flygon…” Alyssa crouched by the water, reaching a hand out and gently pulling her pokemon closer by his clawed wrist. The rising and falling of the Charizard and Flygon’s ribcages only helped to confirm that they were both simply knocked out. ”You did well…” she murmured to his unconscious form gently, running a hand down the side of his green neck before plucking the black and white Timer Ball off her belt and returning him in a flash of red energy. Lance had mentioned at the beginning of their battle that Blaze had been with him for ages, and was one of the most powerful pokemon in his party – even moreso than his Dragonites. For Flygon to be able to handle one of Lance’s pokemon – even one that the Champion himself declared one of the strongest – was something that had even surprised Alyssa. Sure, her confidence in her abilities had not allowed her to doubt that she would lose, but the reality of it when Flygon managed to draw with the Charizard came as a shock to her. I…I actually have a chance against him Her eyes blazed cold fire with a newfound determination in her heart and she looked up through her bangs in his direction. ”An incredible first round…simply incredible. There’s no other word for it. That Charizard of yours is quite impressive, like you said.” She would defeat Lance tonight. Although there was no official title to be handed to her for defeating him, the knowledge that she was able to alone was good enough for her.
