Her fists clenched by her sides, she wanted to practically collapse with the relief of having won that battle. Daybreak, her loyal Espeon companion, stood in front of her, shoulders rising and falling slightly as the pokemon itself panted. Though the last pokemon of their opponent had just fainted, she still stood ready for anything, ears pulled back slightly and tail arched warily. That was a way tougher battle than I was expecting… Alyssa thought, looking between her tiny purple pokemon and the yellow-haired boy standing across the way from her. The traditional, “If you make eye contact with another trainer, you battle them” had practically been the reason for their battle. They’d fought it out, and in the end Alyssa had managed to come out on top. Finally, the realization that the battle was over hit her, and the teenager perked up happily, calling out to the younger boy. ”Wow! That was a great battle!” She felt awkward being so happy about it, and hoped he wouldn’t find it weird. In truth, the trainer was better with pokemon than people. A glance at her phone, then the color-changing sky above them told her that it was getting to be evening…and she hadn’t eaten since breakfast. Uh… she found herself trying to think of how to ask. It would be rude to leave a battle right away, set up camp, and start eating while he was still in the area, right? Especially if she didn’t say anything else? I just…invite him, right? Or do I offer? Stepping forward, she crouched next to her pokemon for a moment and laying a hand on its side. Only then did the Espeon relax and trot on her trainers’ heels as she approached her challenger. ”I don’t think I’ve been tested like that for a while.” Small talk was good, right? ”I’m Alyssa, by the way.” The trainer pulled down the beanie cap as though afraid it were starting to come off and uncover her hair before extending her hand to him, ”I didn’t get your name.” Now, how to invite him to dinner… |
