[atrb=border,0,bTable][style=padding: 0 6; font-family: verdana; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; width: 300px;]Diamond sits at home, soundly besting his little sister at another round of Castle. He laughs when she throws a temper tantrum, because she hasn't changed at all, not since the last time he's seen her two months ago. "You always win," she pouts through puffy cheeks and he smiles, cleaning up the cards as he tells her, "Well, you just need to learn how to play." |
"What does that even mean?" she whines as he reshuffles the deck, and for a moment she looks like she's going to leave in a fit of crocodile tears. But he knows that it's not in her nature, giving up, that she'll wipe those budding tears away and demand another game, again and again until she understands and wins.
The words are on the tip of her tongue when an alarm rings from outside. The Poketch on his wrist lights up too, drawing his gaze. He's not smiling anymore.
"Sorry," [/b]Diamond says as he stands, leaving the cards on the floor, "Looks like I gotta go for now. We'll pick up later, okay?"[/b] He forces a smile to reassure her, but she tugs at his jacket sleeve, worry etched in her face.
"Is Nox attacking?" she asks, a tremor in her voice. He hesitates, but nods, after a moment.
"Will you be okay?"
"I'll be fine," [/b]he says, patting her on the head, "I have my Pokemon with me, after all."[/b]
"But you weren't fine last time," she murmurs. He freezes, but tries to force another smile. It's more difficult though, for some reason.
"Well, they won't get me again," [/b]Diamond says, kneeling down to her level, "I've learned from my mistakes. And that's what you need to do too, if you're going to win in Castle against me.
"I'll come back soon." [/b]He stands again, taking his jacket from the couch before putting it on. "And when I return, we can pick up where we left off. Think about what you did wrong in our games and how you can fix them to win. I'll be testing you, okay?" [/b]The girl nods, quietly sniffling, crying. They're not crocodile tears anymore. "Alright. Go upstairs and wake Grandpa up, okay? Take him downstairs to the basement and hide there until I come back. I'll have Gale watching over the house, so you two will be safe for sure."[/b]
She doesn't move, though. She just watches him, then after a moment, kneels to pick up the deck of cards before standing again, tearful eyes on him. And it's difficult, this; he wants to look away, down, at the floor, but he needs to keep his gaze, his head up. It's only when he finally nods that his little sister turns and leaves, steps quiet as she disappears upstairs.
Diamond turns too, and approaches the door, his Staraptor appearing by his side. They got him before, but he's ready this time; he won't let them scare his family again, not in their very home. He won't be that same Lucas Diamond, shot down on his own doorstep.
"Like we planned, Gale. Watch over the house afterwards,"[/b] he says, his hand on the doorknob. He takes a breath, closes his eyes, then opens the door, ducking immediately. A bullet whizzes by above him, and he can't help but smirk, bitterly; they really did try that same trick again, didn't they? His Staraptor soars out from behind, her precise Detect upon the shot guiding her right to its source: a marksman in the woods, attempting to escape. She disappears into the forest, and seconds later, a bloodcurdling scream erupts from amongst the trees, followed by another, then another. Gale reemerges shortly after and lands upon the rooftop, her talons and beak stained a deep red.
Diamond says nothing, only locking the door before retrieving a Pokeball from his belt. Whatever it takes to keep his home and his family safe; it's war, anyway. No regrets. He runs now, checking again the message he received on his Poketch. An attack from the west, it seems, but he doesn't dismiss the possibility that there are more of them, waiting near the other exits. Keep the defenses up on the north and the south, he sends back, but he'll tackle this first assault for now, do what he can.
He's ready, this time.[/style][/td]
