NOX: GOLD HARBERLEIN we are the masters of our own fate  |
FULL NAME Gold Harberlein is simply Gold. He doesn't particularly like his last name and detests being addressed with both. His parents called him Gold and some of his earliest enemies addressed him as simply 'Harberlein'. BACKGROUND Gold was both on April 18th, in New Bark Town. At a young age, he left his parents to embark on a journey through the kanto and johto regions, driven by the ultimate goal of becoming champion of all champions. A goal that he completed by the end of his journey, through friends, rivals, and battles with team rocket. That was before the war started out, when he thought that organizations like team rocket were the worst in the world, and the most important thing out there for him was defeating a rival he always seemed to run into. At the start of the war, he charged in like he would a battle - finding the violence fun, treating the war almost like a game and ignoring the destruction that was everywhere, on papers, broadcasted through television. It wasn't until he was given firsthand experience at the consequences of such actions - and in his home region, no less - that Gold's eyes were opened up to what the war was really about, and the realization set in that he was just as mind and powerless as all the other soldiers that acted just like him, only to get killed. He started to become aware of his surroundings and, when everything blew over, aware of the way that war-affected areas would never be the same again, no matter how hard everybody tried. With the realization that he'd been deluding himself for so long, things were different for a long, long time. He hid his face behind a mask, feeling paranoia at every little thing around him and pain and fear that his pokemon weren't with the right trainer, that he was going to lead them to their deaths. He lost confidence, refusing to be consoled, and tried to go on with life without messing up anybody else's, especially his close friends. And although the feeling isn't completely gone yet, it's died down to a murmur, and Gold feels like this is something that only time can heal. He's still driven by battle, feeding on goals and lofty expectations to keep himself going. Currently, he's twenty-three. OCCUPATION A title isn't just a title. It needs to accurately reflect where he stands, and Gold takes things like that very seriously. For now, he's a pokemon trainer, and he doesn't deserve anything higher than that until he's actually proven it. Not only to the world, but also to himself. ALLEGIANCE Gold stands with Nox. It doesn't matter that he's seen what both sides can do, and that nobody is really doing the 'right thing' in this war. He feels like Nox is, at least, fighting for the right thing, and believes that he'd rather have Nox win than give into the other sides' beliefs. TRAITS |

SECRETS: ▪ Gold doesn't think that it's right for him to throw his own insecurities onto everybody else. He hides his true self behind a mask of his old brash confidence, hoping that it'll mold itself into reality as time goes on. ▪ Before, he trained to get stronger. It remains the same now, except it's to get strong enough to protect those close to him. After the events of Goldenrod, Gold feels like he's powerless to stop things like that, and pushes himself to extremes to prevent that from happening again. ▪ Gold doesn't feel like he can keep the mask up around his friends, so he pushes them away. He focuses more on the war effort and his own strength nowadays, rather than things like rival battles or faraway ambitions of being champion. ▪ He actually doesn't support Nox as much as he used to, but doesn't hate Lux less than he used to, either. He's certain both sides are at fault in the war, but Nox's beliefs are in the right place. |
