"i love you my dear." |
she wanted to hurl the phone across the clearing, watch it smash into a thousand pieces. cynthia wanted to deny everything, deny that he was gone, deny that she was in isshu all alone without any idea of what she was doing now. all she did, however, was raise the phone to her face, reading the text that had sent her into such happy tears before, only to be replaced by heartwrenching sobs once she'd read the papers.
i love you.
those simple three words were enough to send her off the edge. her hands shook as fresh tears fell from her eyes, the hot liquid staining trails down her cheeks. visk watched with sad eyes as his trainer cried, releasing all the emotion she'd ever had into the silent forest. by this time, small woodland pokemon were gathering at the edges of the shadow, watching the broken champion cry, mourning the loss of someone who'd died just recently in the same area.
"you idiot!" cynthia cried, the phone slipping from her hands as she wiped at her eyes. "you don't tell me you love me then when you were about to die! you go to a doctor, get yourself fixed, and... and i don't know! you don't just... say that and then leave!" she spoke to no one, no one but the wind whispering through the forest. she wanted to see him, wanted to tell him that she felt that way too.
irrationally, she picked up her phone and clicked the buttons, wiping her eyes so that she could see without tears in her eyes. when she pressed send, she realized that it was worthless. there would be no one to see the text, no one to ever know that she returned the feelings as well. no one worth knowing. no one worth telling. no one in isshu with her.
cynthia laid down on the grass besides visk, eyes red and puffy, exhausted from lack of sleep. the steelix watched his trainer, silent as she pulled out the orange bottle. she hadn't bothered to bring water, having mastered swallowing pills when she was a little girl. she poured out several pills into her hand, smiling. they'd help her sleep, someone had said. they could help her sleep forever, she had said. visk almost wanted to slap the pills out of her hand, his own eyes looking away as he heard the gulp, and knew that it would all be over soon.
they say that it would be painless, overdosing on pills. cynthia gripped at her arms, tucking herself into a ball again. "come back." she whispered. "steven, come back." her voice broke on his name, voice too soft to be heard by anyone but herself. visk suddenly became hostile as his trainer lay on the ground, about to die, and let loose a dragonbreath on all the pokemon that had gathered in curiousity. they scattered quickly, running away in a panic. protectively, he formed a semicircle around her, eyes watching her still breathing form, the tears falling down her cheeks slowing.
"i can't find my way back to castelia, steven."cynthia whispered, closed her eyes to the world of gray for a pitch dark, and fell asleep.
a few minutes later, a mournful roar sounded from the forest.[/style][style=float: left; width: 360px; color: FFFFFF; font-family: georgia; font-size: 10px; margin-bottom: 30px; margin-left: 20px]music safe and sound - sam tsui
