[atrb=width,500][cs=2] THE PREDICAMENT LIGHT SNOW / BATTLE LUX LEVELS LILYCOVE The Lux monster we continue to fight attempted to invade the Hoenn continent with an aerial assault on Lilycove City the same day as an attack led upon Slateport. Violence erupted in the, on the beachhead, and in the streets. Many buildings have collapsed in the downtown district, and the casualties and death tolls are still unknown as we search for survivors. The landscape is bleak, and it will take a long time and great effort to restore our Capital of the Pokemon Contests to its former glory. The city has turned to dust and ashes, and few look back as they flee the scarred coastline. The battle began when Lux over-powered the skies with their fleet of helicopters. Evacuation operations began as soon as the attack was spotted, but it was not enough time to fully remove our people from the city. Nox defenses held the beach to protect the area as best they could from senseless Lox slaughter that loomed on the horizon. TERREN SUNDERLAND was one of the brave souls holding the front lines against the arrows of our enemies, taking on the powerful Lux trainer PLATINUM BERLITZ, successfully pushing away her assault and ending their clash with her capture and arrangements for her to stay in the Shoal Cave Prison as a Prisoner of War. After he prepared Berlitz for safe transport to be held, we got a small statement from him before his other duties called him once the battle finally finished. "It was a long, hard battle, and seeing Lilycove this devastated is heartbreaking. But this is war: sometimes, sacrifices must be made…" Meanwhile, several enormous earthquakes wrecked havoc on the city center. We can only speculate that the many Pokemon Battles were the cause of these tremors. The infrastructure was not enough to remain intact, and many people died in the collapse of the Lilycove Department Store, and the other high-rises that surrounded it. Nox Leaders ALYSSA AKIYAMA and PROFESSOR AUREA JUNIPER were among the Nox trapped in catastrophe, fight off the Lux stragglers and attending to the injured. We managed to get a quote out of Leader Alyssa at the medical tents while she was being treated. Compared to her fellow Leader, she had more than a few words. ”Lux put up good fights, but those bastards will pay for what’s happened to Lilycove. The damage goes far beyond what the eye can see…I would dare say the damage is having a worse effect on the innocent civilians that fled for their life than those that actually battle. They lost their home for nothing.” Akiyama’s first-hand experience on the front lines backs up her words. After defending the beach from helicopters she returned to the thick of the fighting, and was one of the people caught in the collapse of the city’s center when the sinkhole opened into the sewers. Shortly after she left the front lines to check on others, ”I trusted the defense and driving-out of Lux to the Rayquaza Aerial Force and Groudon Army Corps when I fell back. They did well today and we showed Lux what we are capable of. We won’t just roll over and let them have their way.” She refused to say any more to us. Professor Juniper, who was seen with Akiyama at one point in the battle, has a more passive – though more sympathetic - standpoint on the events that unfolded at Lilycove. ”It’s difficult to understand why things needed to come to this. All around us are people without homes, without families, and a city in shambles. If all we do is fight one another, the result will always be the same.” she says. When asked briefly about what she sees in the near future as far as the war goes, she responded, ”I do hope that things become better everyone in Hoenn, but I will never let Isshu fall to the same circle of violence.” Lux cretans broke through the front-line defenses and swarmed the city. The Pokemart was demolish by a man on a Golurk, taking a heavy toll on the arsenal our resistance managed to put together. The Pokemon Center was also destroyed by an unidentified madman. What will come from Lux next? If only we had been more prepared. It just goes to show that Lux will attack even relatively peaceful areas, albeit tense due to the area being conflicted territory. A citizen, whose name is withheld, evacuated from the city was separated from his wife in the rush, and returned to where their house once stood to find it crushed by part of the fallen Department Store. His wife never made it out. He gave us a few words, ”Never before were we targeted and attacked for living our lives quietly and the way we want. Especially now there’s no intentions of conforming to something like that. The price they ask is far too high. A life paid to a force that claims to offer protection and order is more than unreasonable.” Other evacuated civilians such as himself are trying to make light of recent events, thankful that the small lighthouse on the southeastern point still stand, along with the art museum, contest hall, and harbor. The last reminders of what Lilycove once was. Finally, perhaps as a last courtesy, Unova trainer Samuel Creek spoke peaceful words with Lux’s faux-Champion THALIA DE LUCA III. The pair were last seen in the Lilycove harbor near some of the unattended boats. We managed to track Mr. Creek down, but not de Luca. His opinion of the battle was clearly expressed in his statement… “During the events of Lilycove, I saw sides of both Nox and Lux that I was yet to encounter. I saw people killed by both sides, I saw sides of people I had never seen before, and I was forced into situations I have no wish to be put into again. This has just reminded me why I stand by Juniper. Reminded me why I stand by Unova. Now I have seen what has become of both sides in this war, I am staying away from Hoenn. I would appreciate if certain individuals stayed away from Unova. We all know how that ended up last time.” There’s more than a single message in that, but, it’s all up to the eyes of the beholders. Still, that doesn’t change what happened here or in the past. Maybe, one day, Lux will be fed up of this war and finally surrender to Nox’s will. While Lux retreated back to Ever Grande City, citizen refugees fled back inland to the west. Hopefully, we will one day able to rebuild Lilycove back into its former glory. A word with Leaders Terran and Alyssa has suggested that it is one of their priorities on the list of repairs, but even so it will take a while. They agree that, “Patience will be key. If we rush the process of restoring Hoenn to what it used to be, it will turn out worse than it is now. The road will be long and difficult, but we’ll make it.” This battle may have won, but the war has still only just begun. |
