Acting on this feeling, he picked the Charmander and named him Char. He hasn’t regretted the decision since, as the Charmander his most beloved and dependable companion out of all his pokemon. Over Red’s adventures in Kanto, the Charmander grew in strength and experience, so much that he eventually evolved into a Charmeleon, then a Charizard. As the most serious and undeniably the most powerful of the lot, Char acts as the leader of Red’s pokemon and helps manage the bunch. As Red’s oldest companion, he acts as a mentor and a guiding figure for the rest of Red’s pokemon. He also acts as the mediator and the level-head within the team, just like Red does. He is also the one that resembles Red the most in personality.[/style] |

[atrb=width, 300] When he was travelling in Viridian Forest, he was suddenly ambushed by a wild Pikachu. After beating him with his Charmander, he decided to just hide him in a bush and leave him there. The wild Pikachu was both touched and insulted that Red didn’t catch him like most trainers would, but the latter won out so he ambushed the trainer and his Charmander again. After being ambushed multiple times in the forest by the same electric rodent, Red finally had enough and caught him. Once caught, the Pikachu revealed his true naughty and possessive colors, often preferring to stay out of his pokeball and on Red’s shoulders and playing pranks on the rest of Red’s team, much to both Red’s and Char’s exasperation. While he is quite possibly the oldest and most experienced pokemon in Red’s team, he is beaten in sheer power by Char. It does not help that he refuses to evolve into a Raichu for prideful reasons, furthering the power gap. Still, he is the most versatile and creative of Red’s pokemon, making up for that power difference in sheer unpredictability. |

Later on, Red returned to that spot with a pokeflute and woke up the slumbering beast, which attacked him in retaliation for waking him up from his pleasant slumber. Red was able to beat the Snorlax with his Charmeleon, and after a bit of deliberation he decided to capture it with a pokeball. After a bit of effort, discipline, and bribery, Red was able to befriend the Snorlax. Soon after finally befriending Lax, Red was witness to his bravery and steadfast demeanor in his further adventures as well as his time in Mt. Silver… whenever Lax wasn’t sleeping the day away like the lazy thing that he is. Fortunately enough, Lax is disciplined enough to stay awake throughout the entire battle… unless he’s hit with something that can force him back to sleep of course. Other habits of Lax include eating and engaging in dares with Pika.[/style] |

As typical of Blue, he challenged Red to a pokemon battle right there and then, but lost to him. After seeing Red win, the other person in the room gave Red a Lapras. With Lap, his new Lapras, Red then went on to beat Giovanni at the top floor of Silph Co. Since then, the gentle Lap has become a mainstay on Red’s team, becoming one of his most reliable pokemon as well as his nicest one. He often counterbalances the rowdy Pika and the overly serious Char with his soothing demeanour. He is also Red’s favourite mode of transportation when crossing bodies of water, which is necessary when training in his favourite mountain.[/style] |

Once there, a mysterious man –whom he later recognized as Giovanni- gave him some Old Amber after a little conversation. Months later when he arrived at Cinnabar Island, Red had the Old Amber revived into an Aerodactyl which he named Aero. After some training, Aero helped Red beat the Cinnabar Gym, earning him the Volcano badge. Since then, Aero has been a mainstay of the team. Aero is a jolly pokemon, often happy as can be no matter the circumstances. Red attributes this zest for life from the second chance that he was given at living when he was revived from the Old Amber. Whenever Red needs cheering up, he usually turns to Aero and Pika to help him with that.[/style] |

When he finally confronted her about it after beating Misty, she revealed that she was curious about his relationship with his pokemon since it was the first time that she had seen someone so young with such happy and loyal pokemon. For some reason that Red couldn’t figure out to this day, she then ‘rewarded’ him for showing her such interesting things by giving him a mysterious pokeball along with a kiss on the cheek and a curious parting message. After getting over his mortified embarrassment, he checked out the pokeball that he was given, which contained a Bulbasaur. This quiet Bulbasaur –now a Venusaur- became one of his mainstay pokemon after he befriended it. Saur is a quiet and obedient pokemon that prefers to stay in the background and obey orders without question. He prefers thought over action, and can often be seen contemplating to himself when alongside Red.[/style] |
