Clad in winter attire, Kim trudged through the snow that continued to gather in this so-called winter wonderland. She definitely looked stylish—at least that’s what the clerk at the store had told her when she bought them, alhthough she was already beginning to regret the decision. As a girl, she naturally cared deeply about her outer appearance, but her low interest in fashion often left her relying on other’s opinions when it came to clothes, especially on an occasion like this. All she knew was that her sweater tickled her neck uncomfortably, and her scarf provided next to no warmth considering how much she paid for it.
But keeping warm was the least of her worries, honestly. Tucked under her arms, and held tightly against her chest, was a small package decorated in a crimson wrapping paper and silver embroidery with a golden bow. A present, obviously—but she had absolutely no idea for whom. She’d mysteriously found a note in her pocket one day, telling her to meet its writer at the center of the Festival under the big tree to exchange gifts. Usually she’d deny such a request. It was awkward, and downright weird to ask such a thing of a person you didn’t know. What’s more, the person didn’t even give their name; just listed themselves as ‘Anonymous’. It only made Kim all the more worried. They could be anyone.
She didn’t stop moving, though. Something about the Festival, and the snow, and the joyous faces of everyone else around her made her feel…well, sort of festive. She was tired of observing from the sidelines, watching everyone else have fun, and wanted to have some of her own. It was foolish, sure, but she didn’t start her pokémon journey just to hide from confrontation, right?
Kim figured she owed what little optimism she had to the phanpy who marched down below in front of her. Though, the most recent addition to her team, he carried on with much more confidence and valor than she did. The Long-Nose hatchling had insisted he escort her to her destination, even though it were quite evident he loathed cold weather, and Kim couldn’t help but admire him for it. By keeping her eyes trained on him, she found herself in the middle of town in no time. Figuring she was early, as no one seemed to be waiting for her, the teenage girl swept a bit of snow off of the circular stone border surrounding the tree to use as a make-shift bench. Phanpy jumped into her lap soon afterwards, forcing her to set the present down beside her so he could be petted, and she happily obliged. It’d keep her occupied while she waited for her own Secret Santa to arrive. Oh, she hoped everything would go well…
