'Why couldn't they have built the underground paths as something other than straight one way passages?'
That was a question that had been repeating in Hunter's mind over and over again. He had just finished a minor assignment in Vermilion City, and was now trying to get back to his apartment in Celadon City. Unfortunately for him, the only route available took him right through Saffron City, where mob rule reigned supreme. Hunter would've much preferred to use the Underground to get to where he was going. Unfortunately for him, the path from Vermilion was a direct route to Cerulean City, with no turnoff for anywhere else.
As he made his way through the streets and gazed at the run down buildings and deserted streets, Hunter couldn't help but be reminded of his teenage years, which were spent wandering Opelucid City's streets with his mother, looking for a patch of pavement that might actually be somewhat comfortable to sleep on.
What Hunter was most focused on however, was the one key difference between Saffron's current state and his poverty stricken teenage years, and that was that here, crime was far more prevalent. For all of his hardships, Hunter had rarely seen any problems regarding criminal activity in Opelucid.
Here, for all he knew, someone might suddenly jump out and try to mug him. Almost as though on cue, Hunter heard a loud noise coming from behind him. He turned around towards where he thought the sound came from, a small opening where an alleyway met the main street. He instinctively reach towards the side of his waist, and quickly pulled his handgun out of its holster, and pointed it towards the alley. He then loudly yelled out angrily, "Who's there?!"
