[atrb=vAlign, top] [classy=avatarr]WORDS; ### TAG; Hunter! NOTES; First mission![/classy] | [atrb=vAlign, top][classy=rppost]As far as Lynne could tell, this mission had two parts. As a research lab full of big, shiny computers it was Lynne's job to crack whatever security that had in place and simultaneously retrieve and destroy as much information as possible. The second was more of a smash-and-grab kind of gig for money, technology, moonstones and any thing else of interest... which as a scrawny sixteen-year-old would find difficult to manage alone. Thank Arceus for big, strong Pokemon. She had considered breaking in to the research facility in the dead of night, imagining some action movie-like stunt work and lots of black clothes and cool gadgets. It hadn't taken more than a quick look at some - albeit outdated - blueprints and some informed guesswork on the security to realize the foolhardiness of that decision. No, it would be much easier to not run around guns blazing - a mission to be completed quietly and covertly under Lux's nose. That was, after all, why they must have recommended her; if anyone could blend with a bunch of geeky scientists, it was probably her. It was always good to err on the side of caution, however, and Lynne had still opted to begin her mission towards the late afternoon, just as the facility would be starting to thin out as people turned in for the day but before any digital security would be turned on. Torque, her Excadrill, had burrowed deep into the mountain earlier that day, and using the old blueprints they had positioned themselves just above the ventilation system with a grate that would take them into a observation room used for live tests on meteorite fragments. The room would be empty unless there was something exciting going on in the testing room next door, so it seemed a good first place to start scouting potential entry points. She checked her digital clock for what felt like the thousandth time that time, squinting against the bright green glow of its face. It had been five hours or so of waiting, with only the illumination of her Rotom to light up the tunnel walls. It had been silent for most of this time, minus the occasional whir of Digits, her Porygon-Z. Finally, however, it was time. "All right Torque, let's begin." The Excadrill lumbered forward to the end of the tunnel on all fours, his wide claws taking in the tiny vibrations coursing through the earth to determine the spot where the dirt would give way to the metal vents underneath. The mole pokemon pulled its hand back, plunging its extremely sharp claw into the soft dirt. Both the dirt and the metal ceiling of the vent gave way - cool air rushed into the dirt tunnel, but minus perhaps a weakening of the effectiveness of their air conditioning system, hopefully the scientists would not notice for some time. Meanwhile, Lynne was pulling a starchy white coat over her clothes and a large drawstring bag on her back that made a clinking noise when she moved. She felt... exposed without her laptop, but the two flash drives in her coat pocket and the knowledge of breaking into the lab's networked computers should suit her fine for this mission. It might have been a little much, but Evelyn had also brought a clipboard. No one bothered someone with a clipboard, right? "Stand by for extraction. It might need to be... quick." The Excadrill nodded, before turning away to tunnel deeper into the earth. Lynne swung her legs over the crude hole, careful to avoid the sharp edges of the torn metal. She slipped into the vent as lightly as she could, though the thin, tinny metal could echo like no other. On hands and knees, she crawled up to the grate, peering in. The observation room appeared to be abandoned, as she had hoped. Thank Arceus; it saved her the trouble of crawling through these vents any longer than necessary. "You're up, Django. Obviously get the camera, but check for any other security." The Rotom flashed her a wicked grin, his plasma body phasing through the grate and disappearing as he possessed the cameras in the room, temporarily freezing the frame. This allowed Lynne to kick open the grate and jump down, Digits hovering close behind her and closing the grate behind her. While the camera was frozen, she wouldn't show up on the tapes - but it'd be good to get moving. She carefully opened the door of the observation room and tried to walk out looking normal and composed, but the hallway was abandoned. A high-pitched giggling behind her informed her that Django had let go of the camera in the observation room, and was probably hovering creepily by her ear. She ignored it, looking both ways before setting off left down a corridor. Left, then right, then left... the facility was larger than it had appeared on the blueprint. On the third turn, she finally ran into people. Two men were storming down the hallway, bickering quite loudly. One was dressed rather casually in a blue sweater and khakis, but the other was wearing the stereotypical white coat that Lynne wore. The Nox infiltrator froze, sure that they would recognize her as an outsider, but the two seemed much too involved in their arguing to give her more than a passing glance as they swept passed her. Lynne let out a breath she hadn't even known she was holding. Arceus, she couldn't just freeze up like that, looking like she had been caught red-handed before even being spoken too! She shook her head, rolling her shoulders back and continuing. Finally, Evelyn found a lab room with a long row of computers that were mostly abandoned. She ducked inside, flicking the lights on and booting up one of the computers. Digits, whirring gleefully, dove into the blue-lit screen to assist her from within. Lynne then removed one of the flash drives from her pocket, jabbing it into the keyboard. The first drive contained all of her code-breaking programs and algorithms. It would help her bypass the security, but if something would take too long to crack cleanly, Digits would be there to destroy it messily from within. Lynne would prefer that the Porygon-Z stay as uninvolved as possible, however; it would not take the computers long to recognize the foreign presence, especially if he started making a ruckus. Files began to open en masse on the screen. Not all of the information was important - some of it would undoubtedly not help Nox at all - but Lynne didn't discriminate. Any file that popped up on the monitor was quickly uploaded to a cloud server she had prepared earlier. This way, any Nox member who had been given access could pull the information down from the cloud; the more widely dispersed the information was, the harder it would be for Lux to burn. While there were some advantages to carrying all this information around on a USB (essentially assuring that no one would tamper with it), this way the information could spread even if she didn't make it out from this miss-... well, better not to think about that. Though this would be for most the most nerve-wracking part of the mission, now that her hands were on a keyboard Lynne felt her pulse slowing, the adrenaline calming down. She started to think, for a moment, that this mission could go off without a hitch... [/classy] |
