THE REPUBLIC: NERVA LAVERNE I DO NOT MIND LYING, BUT I HATE INACCURACY  |
FULL NAME Nerva Laverne is as full a name as one will earn. Referring to him with respect would be most wise. BACKGROUND As Nerva would tell it, there was indeed a time when he scraped along in the streets of Castelia, back in the days where he used a mere Zweilous to catch a raging Milotic ... You'd be surprised, they used to eat that up in Hoenn before the war. Or was that the caviar? Nerva was indeed born in Castelia City roughly 42 years ago, supposedly on a December 20th. Not much is known about his upbringing; most assume that he lies when asked about his beginnings. The rest of the story is just boring enough to be considered real, at least in part. As a young man, Nerva left Unova for a reason he does not dole out under any circumstances. He traveled for a time, scrounging as a trainer as many his age did, though arguably not for the same reasons. Occasional rumor hands to him having taken up tasks to further his strength, stature, and monetary gain, the deeds not always savory. However, nothing was ever proven. In due time, the man was able to get a foothold in the door as a Coordinator, some strings having most definitely been pulled. It was through his rising career that he met Lily, a gorgeous woman of spirit and wealth. It was only a matter of time for him to court her, for them to marry, for a son to come into their family, a beautiful child who took everything from the mother and nothing from the father. All the while, his career unfolded with what would have appeared from the outside to be ease. Some might dare say that these were his golden years, that there's little left. Such words only ever earn a cold smile. It had been Lily who came up with the idea, a convenient fact whenever the practice was later questioned. And, as such systems usually are, it was quite the ideal on paper. To use their wealth to bring other citizens up into her social fold, via charity and the like. Some might have been surprised at how easily Nerva agreed to such a thing. Others might have concluded that Nerva was one of such lucky men and women. Perhaps the luckiest. It was a shame, when Lily disappeared - around a decade ago now, wasn't it? Some even had the gall to accuse Nerva of being responsible for her disappearance, for her possible murder. However, most accusations fell to the wayside when no proof came to light, when no charges could be filed. After all, Nerva did ever so good a job of playing the mourning husband. To this day, he wears his wedding ring, supposedly casting aside potential ... distractions. On the bright side, he had her wealth to comfort him, a career to distract him, the responsibility of his young boy's growth. Time flew, as some might say. Rumors of foul play, either in his career or marriage, fell away into whispers that Nerva never once openly entertained. Then the war came, and Nerva decided that it was time to pick up his son and return to his homeland. For Isshu was, after all, his homeland. There Nerva has remained, for the most part lending his aid from relative comfort. Or, at least, he has thus far. Editting changes in after flashback threads. OCCUPATION Nerva may be considered, if nothing else, a gentleman. Throughout his life he has accomplished many things, and so other titles might follow. However, humility can be the best defense at times. Alternatively, Nerva worked as a coordinator for a time and does have a background in speaking. ALLEGIANCE Though he still has ties with Lux, Nerva is now the Minister of Finance of the Republic. TRAITS |
POSITIVE TRAITS: ▪ ▪ Intelligent, oftentimes more than he'd let on. The more people think they're a step ahead of him, the sloppier they get. ▪ In control - of himself, as well as others. ▪ Observant; he has a tendency of picking up on traits of those around them, almost as if driven by a survival instinct. It's rare that he shares his observations, however. ▪ Charitable, though in truth that might not be the proper word. | NEGATIVE TRAITS: ▪ You will not get praise from Nerva. If you are doing right by him, you are serving your purpose correctly and he's not going to feel the need to pat you on the head for it. Who knows what's in your hair? Woe to the person who disappoints him, however. ▪ Calculating. If he can, Nerva will make a point of always been five or more steps ahead of the other person. ▪ Can appear emotionless; when he is angry, it is that of a cold sort. And it is when Nerva goes cold that one should start watching their back. ▪ Many of his interests might come off as frivolous from time to time. ▪ Nerva sees others as tools, and little more. Be they Pokemon, or human, a being's worth to him is heavily influenced by what it can do for him. |
LIKES: ▪ Order. Where there is order, there is room to command. ▪ "Investments." Well, those that have turned out. Really, though, you never see a failed investment of Nerva's for some reason. ▪ Having an extra favor to call on ▪ Beauty. His definition does not always hold up with that of the common man, though there may be some alignment. ▪ Cat and mouse games. Especially when the other is under the illusion that they're the cat, of all things. | DISLIKES: ▪ Carelessness; mostly finding it in others. After all, Nerva is very rarely careless ▪ Getting his hands dirty. Nerva would much rather stand back and instruct others, be they person or Pokemon. ▪ Being mocked or denied. ▪ Losing an investment; who enjoys having their toys taken from them? ▪ Weakness |
SECRETS: ▪ Nerva's wife is still alive ▪ Did you know he took her name when they married? Not many do. ▪ Alliances are enjoyed. Including those that aren't strictly legal. Nerva has dabbled in such bonds with certain crime syndicates in his life, and the time may or may not come for him to draw upon such things. Nothing was, of course, ever proven. ▪ Has a nasty habit of ... investing in others, especially families. Of course, they always pay him back some way or another. This charity is, of course, completely legitimate. This has absolutely nothing to do with Nerva's far reach. ▪ A select amount of his Pokemon are rarely intended to actually fight other Pokemon, or even see the figurative light of day in any brand of competition. This doesn't mean they weren't trained to be violent, nor that he would refuse to fight with them if he had little other choice. |
