FULL NAME His proper birth name is THANATOS PROMETHEUS THEOPHYLAKTOS. He takes the meaning of his name quite seriously (it being 'death foresight guarded by god') in the sense that he is death to those around him; once he decides to kill somebody their fate to die is guarded by whatever unholy god is out there. When he attended school as a boy oftentimes he accepted being called NATE because "THANNY" and "TOSSI" were unacceptable. He will occasionally give his name as NATHANIEL STARK, or HANS RIVAILLE for the sake of work. BACKGROUND trigger warning for the content below In VEILSTONE CITY, now TWENTY-TWO YEARS passed, one life was sacrificed to bring another into the world on NOVEMBER 7TH. Evadne Theophylaktos died in childbirth of her son, Thanatos, to Odysseus Theophylaktos. The man had loved his wife more than life itself, and she had been incredibly beautiful. That beauty faded with her life, though. From the beginning Odysseus hated young Thanatos, blaming his son for the death of Evadne. He only spoke with the boy when necessary, mostly reading or working whenever he needed to have an eye kept on him so that he didn't burn the house to the ground. The only reason Odysseus did that much for Thanatos was so that he could see Evadne's eyes - golden-colored with central heterochromia and darker gold around his pupils - whenever he pleased. When he was old enough, Odysseus enrolled Thanatos in public school. Contrary to their social status (Odysseus was the head of an architectural and interior design firm, having cooperated in the past to build headquarters for large companies; big money), he didn't feel the need to spend more than he needed on his son. Thanatos had a "different" schooling experience. Having not been properly socialized by his father, he found the experience largely overwhelming, often retreating to a corner of the room to sit and pay attention. The child was vastly intelligent, though, able to soak up knowledge in any form and recite it perfectly. Eidetic memory. Because of his decent "looks" and strange, brooding quietness, and intelligence, Thanatos attracted the attention of most girls his age even though he wanted nothing to do with them. He merely tolerated their presence while they talked, and rarely said more than a couple words to them. He became interested in pokemon for the sake of having something to "properly" interact with and something that could give him more power, and on the side studied the fundamentals of training on his own. This continued until he was fifteen. As Thanatos grew older, Odysseus' hatred for him grew more evident. The man took to drinking and physical abuse - though never at the same time. He was always of sound mind whenever he beat his son; largely through open-handed strikes to the back or chest. Occasionally he struck with his fist, and even more infrequently did he strike Thanatos' head. At this age, Thanatos did research of his own into Sinnoh's underground and resources potentially for his disposal. Something that caught his eye were the gunrunning rings operating right under the law's nose. He endured the verbal and physical abuse for two years more, until he was seventeen. By this point he'd gotten many contacts and resources as well as a fist pair of custom-made pistols he'd designed. After weeks of considering options, Thanatos controlled his own life on the outside as well as in, killing his father. He tailed his father through Veilstone rather than going to school, taking advantage of Odysseus' habit of departing for business trips in the evening. He ambushed his own father and murdered him in a back alley. Careful to avoid any locations with potential traffic, he - with the help of a few contacts he had temporarily granted a label of "trust" - brought Odysseus' body to the abandoned Galactic Warehouse and incinerated it in the underground furnace. Luckily, the city being asleep as it was, and with the efficient coworkers for the operation he had, they got away without a trace, shutting the furnace down when even his teeth had turned to ash. Thanatos had made his father disappear without a trace. One despicable human was lost, and a sociopath came to life. When the police came to question him, still a minor, his story checked out thanks to the alibi of the elderly house-cleaner they had that cleaned whilst they slept. A simple ploy of something Thanatos-shaped beneath the sheets had been enough to fool him. The assets left by Odysseus went to Thanatos as the next of kin, and the Veilstone estate was liquidized entirely, bringing even more money under Thanatos' name. The seventeen year old went underground into the gunrunning business of Sinnoh, which had recently gotten a boom now that the war had begun. He stayed there for two years, working his way quickly through the ranks and tearing apart most anybody who stood against him publicly for what Thanatos considered ultimate humiliation, and often set out to ruin them reputation- and finance-wise afterward. In two years he had control of his own ring, but left the post shortly before turning twenty and jumped ship to Kanto. He figures now that if he ever wants or needs that position back, he'll be able to take it easily. There's a number of people he is still in touch with that remain loyal to only him. Before he crafted a name for himself in the war, Thanatos easily fit the job description of "Rich Boy". However, once he joined Team Rocket as a Grunt through Proton's recruitment, he quickly surpassed other Grunts through establishing a more business-based relationship with Giovanni rather than one of boss-underling, and acting as a personal "understudy" of sorts to Proton (Giratina rest his soul). These ambition-chasing acts left him somewhere between the ranks of a normal Grunt and closer to being an Executive...likely despised by other Rockets whose ambitious drive paled before Thanatos'. Giovanni died abruptly only months after Thanatos joined Rocket, and although the circumstances of his death remain clouded for the most part, he holds Lux to blame. Thanatos decided to exact revenge working under Rocket's flag on the front lines for a very brief time, committing one of the worst acts of terrorism in the war to date. In September of 2012, the Battle of Goldenrod began. Thanatos, a personal vendetta against Lux and holding them responsible for Giovanni's death, encountered two potential antagonists in this fight but largely stuck to his own agenda for massive destruction. round 1, round 2. The third person he encountered, however, was more or less on board with drawing havoc over the city in any way possible. His name was Azrael. round 3. Afterward, Azrael and Thanatos fled the battle as quickly as possible, and stayed in azrael's cabin at the Lake of Rage. the news of Goldenrod's destruction painted a grim portrait for those that hadn't witnessed the battle itself. Thanatos remained in hiding for three months after this, and killed the pokemon he used in Goldenrod so there would be no familiarity. He was made aware of Proton's death some time toward the end of that quarter-year. Seizing initiative to possible stoke his ambition, he reappeared on Sinnoh's underground. Now twenty-one, he's made use of the contacts he's kept loyal to him to offer himself as a weapons - primarily firearms - designer for whomever pays. He asks for fifty percent of a down payment but the quality of the product is assured. He etches his personal seal in the metal of the weapons so they may be identified as his. On the same note, he's installed himself as a spy in The Republic as well, and with his hands dipped with the inner workings of the three factions now existing in the world, he has adopted the position of an Informant under the name of Nathaniel Stark. His functioning name as a Spy is Hans Rivaille; he wears gray contacts and dyes the bizarre white stripes of his hair black when working as a spy, as well as dressing in a simple polo t-shirt, jeans, sneakers, and traveling with a skateboard. Other than this he wears his suit, skull rings and collar ornament, no contacts, and no hair dye. He has yet to make a move as far as Rocket goes, but he will attempt to do so in a landslide manner - one that will alert the other Executives to his existence and intention to surpass them by any means necessary. Simply put, he's a person you want to be wary of. trigger warning ends OCCUPATION He likes to think of himself as The Spy in this war - his secrets have secrets. He's gotten a hand in everything there is to have your hand in. Does it have money? He's got a hand in it. Power? Another hand. Somehow, some way he will have a hand in it. Even if he doesn't make a physical presence he has...ways of persuading his way in to a circle. Thanatos functions as a SPY no matter where he is, effectively infiltrating the important "rings" of different Organizations or Factions to feed information about them to his other "employers" while feeding their information straight back to whatever he's spying for. More than a double agent, more than a triple agent, simply put his path in life is a complex and dangerous one. He trusts nobody but himself, and has enough intel at his personal collection to serve as an INFORMATION BROKER to the paying customers of the war's underground. On the surface, though, he has kept an ear on Team Rocket's activities and going-ons in spite of being MIA for at least one year. He's quite sure they assume he's dead. Thanatos has also maintained his connections with his old gun-maker in case anybody wants a flashy custom-designed firearm. Simply put, he has re-instated himself as a WEAPONS DESIGNER on the surface as a legitimate cover to his true occupation. Oh what a tangled web he weaves. ALLEGIANCE When he needs to, he will tell you he belongs to either of the three main factions in this war for the sake of not being killed and/or getting places. However, a Nox-gone-Rocket-gone-AWOL post-Goldenrod being his true allegiance, Thanatos' mindset actually leaves him falling under the ideals of THE REPUBLIC, simply because he has a "fuck everything and everyone that isn't me" attitude in this war. It's quite complicated, actually...really the only person he will ever be truly loyal to is himself. TRAITS |
