THE REPUBLIC: JACQUES WEISS Open your eyes, open your mind proud like a god don't pretend to be blind  |
FULL NAME Jacques Strauss Weiss would be this man's absolute full name, as printed on ID cards and Enlisted ID. However, throughout the years, acquiring nicknames is almost a must -- even if they're not used too often. The most frequently used out of them is the classy 'Jack', or 'Weiss'. Because of his age, he never got to advance much, but his skills did earn him the respectful military rank of Sergeant Major, thus beingknown by military friends as 'Sergeant Weiss' or just Sergeant at times. Ridiculously enough, in his time he referred to himself as the Phantom Knight or Cobra occasionally, when he felt like it. Such was put to mockery later on. There were probably other nicknames he had behind his back during childhood. Probably none of which worths mentioning. BACKGROUND Because people here love long histories, Ima make one up. JACQUES STRAUSS WEISS, named almost identically after his deceased grandfather, was born NINETEEN YEARS ago on the autumn night of OCTOBER 28TH. He was the firstborn to the unusually young couple of fisherman apprentice Vittorio and Pokemon professor assistant Isabella Cordellia, as a result of unprotected intercourse -- which love had managed to overcome. Until a week after his birth, Jacques was just a nameless child, and when Isabella's father died he was given that man's name. One misfortune after the other: first, giving birth to a boy while being only 17 years of age and barely capable of earning a worthy salary, and then having her father dead, Isabella had only Vittorio to back her up. And while despair haunted them for the first year with an offspring, they managed to find a good lifestyle they were satisfied with. Thanks to Professor Elm's support of his assistant and Captain Anne's respect for his apprentice, the parents managed to leave the main parts of Johto and through one of the captain's old boats, left to an isolated island near Azalea Town -- ALTO MARE, which was labeled as the town Jacques considers his birthtown. As an infant, Jacques was a pretty inactive kid, often sleeping almost for days and waking up only to eat and cry when he 'did his needs'. One bright day, around the time this blond boy was two years old, an energy outburst assaulted his spirit and ever since, he was restless. Simply put, from a Snorlax to a Vigoroth. The decent jobs his parents found were enough to provide shelter -- albeit not first class -- and food -- if only three meals a day. Jacques' over-energetic state as a child was often a burden, getting into trouble in all sorts and having the responsibility fall on his parents. Needless to say they loved him as he was. Isabella's new job was as a teacher in the local Pokemon Academy, using her knowledge from working with Elm to teach the younger generation about Pokemon; Vittorio, now having a boat and living in a town-on-water, used whatever he could find to improvise a stand, getting in the marketing business through fishing. Jacques' most notable hobby was to stick with his parents at the time, clinging to them and coming with them to work -- being slowly acknowledged and familiared with the whole town. For some reason though, he refused to play with young children his age, but only played with the teenagers and adults. When Jacques was three, it was time for him to enter kindergarten. Much like most clingy kids, the boy too had trouble getting used to the fact his parents 'abandoned him' for around five-six hours a day. Little by little though, Jacques started finding friends, soon getting along very well with the majority of fellow toddlers around him. They even made a social game they called 'Pokemon Fire!', which very much looked like two groups in war with each other, involving the few Pokemon that were found around their little space. In his success and adaptable tactics, Jacques' popularity among the kids grew, and he was often chosen to lead the 'troops' in battle. Children however, are oblivious to potential that serves in the world of adults; what the teacher saw in young Jack was not just talent, but a genius mind. Per recommendation, Jack was sent to take a certain test to measure his intellectual level. The result was more or less to be expected: On the first half an hour, Jacques did exceedingly well. On the second half-an-hour, the boy got bored and left the test as it was, hurrying to play another round with his children friends. In short, Jackques' result was 'a genius with ADD'. Seeing that, his parents - which based themselves in Alto Mare a little better, started investing more in their kid's education, limiting his playing hours and ordering him to study more, though in a way suitable to fool a three-year old. It worked, partially; one way or another, Jacques got his way of playin Pokemon Fire! with his friends, sneaking out at nights and sleeping minimally. This obviously caused trouble and was in the way of his studying schedule. Further surveillance discovered the tricky kid's method of getting what he wanted and soon they came to a certain understanding to allow Jack to grow up like a normal boy. So what if he was a genius? Being nearly teenagers themselves, Vittorio and Isabella understood his need in fooling around more than studying. The easygoing routine of the youngest child around running around every person in town continued until Jacques was 7. Around the time the boy turned 7, a new family moved in to Alto Mare under the reason that they sought a good place to at last settle in. These guys were the Fiammas, a young couple with two daughters: one as old as Jacques and the other three years old. Naturally, because they were children, those two daughters were recruited to the rather large 'gang' Jack led in his time as a boy, mainly under Pokemon Fire! tactics. Rebecca and Ninny, they were called. Soon enough, Rebecca became Jacques constant contest when it came to this game, and a spark was lit in him as a result: his title as the 'king' was at stake. Vittorio managed to catch this opportunity and used it to strike some determination and reason to his kid, such actions resulting in the boy starting to study a lot more often. If he wanted to develop a better mind and better tactics on his own, it was a different story from taking his childhood away. And so it began, little Jack's development. For a while he had resigned from his position as 'king', leaving the new girl to administer all further games, while he plays as a normal foot soldier. He had learned more about different Pokemon never found in Alto Mare through movies and books and took a serious liking to the former, deciding on a childish dream to one day film a movie. And two years later, he returned to 'command', landing a very quick, Blitzkrieg victory upon his opponents using the first Pokemon he had trained: a Tauros, a gift given to him from both Vittorio and Isabella for his 8th birthday. Obviously, taming such a beast was incredibly hard, especially with this particular one's great temper. But an incident caused them to bond and better understand each other, the one Jack refuses to admit is true. One night in training, they were dragged into an illusionary world, it appeared, where Jacques and his Tauros both experienced abnormal sights. Such was the work of Pokemon that looked like letters, and chanted a freaky, intimidating chant. Unown. The most scariest creatures in the world, per those two. A single Unown escaped from the Ruins of Alph and ended up playing a night in Alto Mare, much to the youngster and his partner's horror. After those visions, Jacques and his Tauros -- Yammy -- became inseparable partners. And as a result of his victory, Rebecca started despising the boy. Time passed again. By his 10th birthday, Vittorio and his gathered men left Alto Mare to visit Captain Anne again, seeing his successful ship, the S.S. Anne. A cruise that was supposed to take a few days turned into a few weeks, to over seven months, in which no one had heard of the S.S. Anne's sink, but received letters from abbreviated names, easily translated as the missing men. The first letter packs to arrive came tied to a Pelipper, after three months that everybody lost hope. They said they left to discover new lifeforms around the world and explore new regions, promising to come back. It was a selfish decision, but the pieces of knowledge brought by the end of this cruise, Jacques would have never replaced with anything. By 11, the boy and his small group started attending the local Pokemon Academy. All through this time, Jack and Rebecca constantly competed against each other in many forms. One day, when Jacques turned 13, they took the challenges too far, into an all-out Pokemon battle. Using water-type Pokemon mainly, Jacques developed a strategy to easily defeat his contest, focusing on depriving the enemy roster from any water and allowing them a moment of relief -- only to strike with an Electrike later. And even though they knew the weather was definitely not in their favor, they continued. Naturally they suffered the consequences, and when heavy rain started pouring down the watery city Alto Mare started shaking as well. Strong, large waves moving violently and crashing on the passages. Even after seeing that, they tried to continue -- per Rebecca's demands. She was soon proven how foolish she was to keep battling in such aerial conditions, when a large wave hit their battle grounds, carrying the girl off to the raging waters between buildings and forcing her injured Pokemon to faint after attempting to rescue her. Jacques jumped in the water, desperately trying to save his opponent from death. Obviously however, even if he managed to at least ensure she didn't drown while he held her, the stream was too powerful. The other kids rushed to bring the parents to help, but when they arrived the two rivals were already out of town area, depending entirely on the water's stream and their luck. But in such a heavy storm, you can't expect much. Facing a huge wave, Jacques was sure they were goners. Dead for sure. When he woke up in his bed at home to the face of his rival weeping her eyes out and the sound of his mother crying, he understood he was alive and reassured everyone miracles do happen. Only three witnessed how Jack and Rebecca returned to the shore as the storm mysteriously subdued almost at once, on the back of a flying Pokemon -- the guardian of the city, Latios. Of course, nobody ever believed what they said was true, but for some reason Rebecca refused to say anything despite being conscious very much throughout the entirety of this hellish experience. Jacques on the other hand, remembered nothing except blacking out at a huge wave. For some reason, the girl also refused to compete against Jack anymore without pleadings from 'her team', and when she did, it was as if something was... Off about her. Jack too, occupied himself much less with studies and games, accumulating from this whole experience that he was weak. Too weak. If he couldn't save a person from drowning, he was not strong enough. For the rest of the year, the boy found himself tagging along his dad in work again, this time deciding to actually act instead of just watch. He too, worked as a fisherman now. Sometime around 14 however, rumors of the Pokemon League starting a new form of order to better maintain peace in response to Team Rocket, Aqua, Magma and Galactic's tyrannous and cruel actions. Luckily enough, despite basically counting as a part of Johto, Alto Mare was far off in the waters, basically the countryside, and was left untouched in this new order. The many reports that soon proved such rumors about Lux as true kept on getting worse and worse, and Vittorio and Isabella sought to move away from this town before the conflict and strictness reaches their lives as well. Sometime then, Jacques and Rebecca talked out the reason for her more common depression and refusal to compete with the boy in particular. As always, it became a turmoil of yells and shouts at each other, but in all that something weird was said: Rebecca more or less confessed. Very loudly. Even going as far as calling Jack an idiot and ending the 'talk' with a slap to his face. In time, following a very awkward route, Jacques and Rebecca became a couple, while the needy younger sister Ninny was almost treated like their kid. Like a yet-to-be-formed family. Rebecca even promised to marry Jacques officially in the future and started referring to herself as "Ms. Weiss". But shortly, the next place the Weisses will live in was set -- the abandoned and recently reformed city of Holon, in the mysterious Holon Region far away from the mainlands. Legends have it that the elusive Mirage Pokemon Mew set that place as its home, and people who regained interest in the region itself decided to settle there and start from scratch, without the electromagnetic waves earlier residents released there. Upon the decision made, Rebecca decided to leave the Fiammas and tag along with the Weiss family, allowing her and Jacques' relationship to progress. Back then, they were only 16 years old. Conveniently enough, the only way to get to the Holon Region was via sea, as the electromagnetic waves disrupted any plane's navigation and functioning. They managed to take Captain Anne's best vessel as a present, using it to cruise from the city of water to the island of mystery. Order in the island was rather simple: small settlements, a general water source and supplies arriving through military force residing in the settlements. There was just about enough for a good life anyone can enjoy peace and quiet, without too many Pokemon involved thanks to their quite dangerous natures. And while the militial forces were in charge of security and exploring the region, Jacques found some way to aid his family too -- by serving with his intellectual skills as an addendum in methodical and strategical capture and exploring. This more or less made him learn about the island's entirety and the Pokemon that lived there, and so he began capturing Pokemon and training them, being likely the only civilian aid to the military around Holon. Yammy grew old, and grew very fond of a domestic Mawile, and soon a Pokemon Egg was produced. When Jacques was nearing on his 18th birthday, the egg hatched to reveal a baby Tauros, a very unusual phenomenon as the offspring took after the father rather the mother. With this, Yammy served as Vittorio and Isabella's guardian Pokemon, released by his late trainer but still remaining domestic and tamed to live with the humans. And very soon, things went downhill: history repeated itself, when Rebecca "Weiss" informed Jack of the result of unprotected intercourse: she was pregnant. Jacques was going to be a father. He was first at shock and wanted to run away, not sure what to say or how to handle this. And at his 18th birthday, to add fuel to the fire, he was separated from his family and lover to join the military, to explore Holon. He saw in this a good opportunity to clean his mind off the sudden stress, to detach himself from this sudden, unexpected event. A month after he enlisted, at long last, he contacted his family, being allowed to leave for a small break. He was informed that Rebecca was too stressed to become a mother just like that, and it was Jacques fault that she went through abortion -- because he wasn't there to support her. Jack returned to his platoon heartbroken, his lover broke up with him with what's happened after all. To distract himself from this sadness, Jacques started hitting on every girl he found attractive, never telling the reason. He indulged himself in what he did, in every drill and operation the army made him go through, and with that his potential as a soldier was acknowledged. Going through commander course was easy, and very soon Jack became a Sergeant, one of the younger ones, leading an elite yet small team. His experience in leading his friends all those years ago served him perfectly, as all tactics and strategies he pulled off were nearly identical to what he did in Pokemon Fire!. By the time he was 19, Jacques was promoted to Sergeant Major -- but due to it being a long name alone, he prefered if his colleagues and friends calmed him just 'Sergeant'. One day, everything that the main 5 countries went through in the Lux and Nox conflict reached Holon at last. Being originally from this very regions, the people decided to further investigate. A few of the soldiers were to be sent off to the mainlands to pursue information through neutrality, having to 'side' with the Republic for that matter. Sergeant Major Jacques Strauss Weiss was chosen even before he volunteered to become a part of this project. And there he is today. OCCUPATION As there is no real class revolving around Military, it's safest to assume Jack is either a Spy or a Chaser, leaning more towards the latter for his sole task is pursuit. Such involves violent yet elegant maneuvers and tricks played on both sides of the war, as well as infiltrating information in the Republic itself. No mercy, no emotions during work. The perfect soldier. ALLEGIANCE Republic; Regardless of the fact he was sent as a neutral body secretly aligning against both sides rather with them, Jacques can easily relate to the republic in a more negative way; accusing both Lux and Nox of being unworthy and improperly organized. There is also the fact he lived on neutrality and learned only to pass rather throw. The Republic is where he sees himself, until more information behind the dark curtains is revealed about the conflicting sides -- publicly or privately. TRAITS |
