REPUBLIC: AMELIA YOUNG "Ride hard, don't look bacK." |
FULL NAME Amelia "Scarlet" Young As a freelancer and sellsword, she chooses to identify under an alias. Her reasons are predominantly for her own "safety": should she step on anyone's toes, particularly during this war, she is able to quickly change her call name and continue operation. Her present alias is "Scarlet". She rarely will disclose her full, true name. BACKGROUND Amelia was born twenty-seven years ago to a relatively well-off family in Fortree City. Her mother was a Pokémon Breeder and her father was a Pokémon ranger. Both of her parents watched over the town with a fervent passion; it was their home and an ideal place to train their daughter to follow in their footsteps. Due to the need for physical fitness in order to get around the tree tops, Amelia, and everyone else who called Fortree City their home, were considerably fit and healthy. She also became very close to nature thanks to her daily interactions with Pokémon and the forest. Needless to say, this definitely influenced her need for maintaining her body's prowess and her passionate admiration for the great outdoors. It was when she turned seven that she was given her first Pokémon: a stouthearted, fiesty Riolu. She named him Fang because the first thing he did when he was released from his Pokéball was bite Scarlet's hand. The duo had a rocky relationship at first, needless to say, mainly because both were ornery and followed the beat of their own drums. The young Riolu spent most of his time outside and away from his new trainer whenever he was out of his Pokéball. It was only six months later that Fang gained respect for Scarlet. Her father had brought the duo along for a routine patrol of the forest with the hopes that they might become closer. Naturally, Fang was not eager to be around her and promptly darted away in a vain effort to escape. Scarlet promptly gave chase, and it was only when the Riolu disturbed a litter of Poochyena that she finally caught up. A ravenous, enraged Mightyena mother promptly attacked, purusing them until they were trapped in a cliche scenario. Pinned against a wall, Fang reacted by attempting to attack, but was trumped by the rampaging mother. Stubborn as ever, but weakened and defeated, Fang was about to become dog-chow when Scarlet leaped into action. Though naturally a seven year old was no match for a Pokémon, she managed to stall for time by grabbing a large stick and smacking the hound with it. Despite the futile attacks, this left an impression upon the Riolu, and when Scarlet's father finally arrived upon the scene to neutralize the rampaging Mightena, Fang found great respect for his trainer. Likewise, Scarlet felt more in sync with him. At the age of ten, she was given a Mudkip as a birthday present from her mother. Earning the name of "Mud" thanks to her habit of splashing in the mud, the new Mudkip became quite chummy with Fang, who had recently evolved into a Lucario. With the newest addition, her father began to take her more under his wing, teaching her about survival skills and how to handle a weapon so that she might be able to help with the ranger work in the future. Blue was a Bagon when he joined the team. He, much like many others of his kind, had thrown himself off a cliff in attempt to fly. Injured, he had found his way into trouble by harassing other Pokémon and humans for food. Scarlet, now thirteen, volunteered to wrangle the Bagon and "book him". Blue and Fang fought, leaving Blue defeated and adding him to the team as the first wild Pokémon caught by Scarlet; she named him Blue because of his haughty, "blue blooded" nature. Naturally a proud bloke, the Bagon did not take kindly to defeat and still holds a grudge against Fang; they never see eye to eye and will bicker over small things. Later in her thirteenth year, Scarlet caught an impish Haunter who had been pranking the townspeople by tampering with their plumbing. Needless to say, she thought it wise to keep him under watch in order to prevent such an incident from occurring again. He was named Green because of how inexperienced he was in terms of handling his power. The next addition to her present day roster was another mischievous Pokémon: Murkrow. This Pokémon had decided to drop things on the citizens of Fortree City for its own amusement and stealing their particularly shiny objects in order to enhance its trove of treasures. He was intelligent and capable of mimicking a few phrases at most, but was vexed with extreme vanity and a prankster-like nature. With its capture (and the return of everyone belongings), Scarlet thought that the crow would have an easier time being in her possession rather than out on its own. Flint would later be the only unevolved member of her team to date, seeing as he wouldn't be able to perch upon her shoulder otherwise. He was named Flint due to his compulsive nature to hoard treasures. As her skills as a survivalist grew, her father became increasingly more relaxed with his rules. By the time she was sixteen, she was staying out in the woods overnight with her Pokémon, and was growing ever more attached to them. Scarlet began to refer to her team as her "crew", and a good majority of them began to evolve as they grew stronger and stronger. These were happy times for her, but they were not destined to last. Her mother grew very sick, and they were forced to move away from the forest in order to seek out a doctor in the Unova region. This marked the end of her childhood and the transition into premature adulthood. The strain of her mother's medical bills meant that she had to pursue an occupation, and it was difficult for her to hold one down. It would be one day as she sat on a bench in Black City that she noticed Flint choking on something: a parchment for the arrest of a wanted fugitive. Her first pursuit was slightly rocky, but was a loose success. She apprehended the criminal, received her pay, and was able to help her family, though she never revealed to her the source of her income. Each member of her team was particularly useful for her occupation: Fang was capable of tracking thanks to his aura-sensing capabilities, Green and Blue could ambush from above, and Flint was able to swipe valuables and guns off of them.  Scopes was a prize taken off of one criminal. Scarlet, figuring that where he was headed didn't require the need for a Pokémon, looted it off his unconscious body. The arachnid was exceedingly useful for later apprehensions: his web could trap and electrocute convicts. He was the first on her team to be put on stand-by for whenever she was in pursuit of a fugitive. Scarlet encountered Sylvan during a criminal pursuit in White Forest. He was caught as a Sawsbuck and very swift: even Scopes had trouble pinning him down. This deemed the deer worthy enough for the young huntress, allowing him a permanent spot on her roster. He is primarily used as a mount through areas where Blue cannot fly. Jet was apart of a Pokémon bounty assigned to her when she was nineteen. He had been causing trouble in a nearby mine, and caused a slow down in production. As with Sylvan, Jet impressed Scarlet enough that she also added him to her "crew", thanks to his ferociously aggressive behavior. This trait would be a double-edged sword: it was quite beneficial in relentlessly attacking, but meant that he was aloof and territorial with others. Likewise, Ice was also an aggressive Pokémon that had a bounty placed upon her: the same scenario unfolded with the weasel Pokémon joining her crew. When the war broke out five years ago, young Scarlet was still dedicated to helping her family in whatever way she could; however, instead of merely bounties, she decided that a new method of obtaining riches was before her. With her trusty crew, she would set off in search of wealth and whatever form it might come in. For days on end, she would be absent from her family's home in the Hoenn region "cleaning up" after battles and escorting wealthy patrons from one city to another. All the while, her father viewed the war as something that Unova should stay out of (and thus fully supported the formation of the Republic), causing a rift between the two of them that eventually led to Scarlet leaving. She, out of rage, turned her back upon her father and mother and set off into the wilds of Unova, determined to prove her parents wrong. If asked, she would say she would like to rekindle her relationship with them, but desires that her father approach her for forgiveness first. OCCUPATION Amelia "Scarlet" Young is a freelance mercenary and specializes as a bounty hunter of both Pokémon and men. While her services go for a pretty penny, she is quite skilled at her work: Scarlet's team works in perfect tandem with one another, which facilitates many jobs. Of course, as she typically will do whatever she can for a fine bit of money to line her pockets with, she may also begrudgingly smuggle goods. Why begrudgingly? Simply put, Scarlet views smuggling as an endeavor beneath her skill set that doesn't pay very well; she enjoys the thrill of the chase. ALLEGIANCE Scarlet views the war as a time when she can make the most money and a great time to boost her own personal wealth. While being a mercenary is certainly a less than safe occupation, she views it as the best way to actually get cash: both sides of the war need soldiers for skirmishes and battles, and thus they would want to recruit all the help they can get. Needless to say, her opinion is easily swayed by a language that everyone seems to understand: Pokémon Dollars. It speaks loud and clear to her, and it tells her who to support. As long as she is making a profit, she'll be happy with the war and whatever side will allow her to maintain it. TRAITS |
