FULL NAME Arlene Valerie Lee Wolcott. She’s always thought it was a lame name and has been going by Verona for years. You’re lucky if you can get her to respond to Arlene, Valerie or any diminutives. BACKGROUND Her background is no one’s business, and even if you do manage to get it out of her, parts can easily be left out. Verona was born in Cerulean City, but swears her parents should have just moved to Lavender Town with how much they visited there. Her parents were both psychics, which was the only reason they admitted to visiting Lavender Town so much, although Verona was never convinced that was the sole reason. But Verona never knew how to ask her parents things, and her parents never knew how to tell her the same, so there was never much communication between the two. They often used Verona’s sister as a messenger; “Hey, tell mum I’m going out tonight.” “Tell Verona to do her chores.” “Tell them this.” “Tell her that.” Verona knew she was never going to be the favourite child. She never had psychic powers, and she was never the sweet child growing up that her sister was. But that was fine; Verona can be very accepting of things so long as she’s the first to decide that’s how it is. Verona always has to be the one to come up with things. She hates second-hand ideas. As she grew older, Verona stopped going with her family to Lavender Town. The trip had always been a waste of time for her. While her family was away, Verona would enjoy doing things her parents didn’t let her do, things like camping near Mt. Moon and playing around wherever else a Pokemon might jump out and attack. The wild Pokemon didn’t scare her though, since she was smart enough to stay out of the tall grass if she didn’t feel like fighting, and if she wanted a fight she’d take her pet Pidgeys with her. One day her parents never came back. They died from something or another (turns out Verona is bad at asking anyone questions) and her sister ended up in hospital, badly injured. Verona never gathered enough courage to visit her sister - there’s nothing worse than seeing people you like bruised and bloody and whatever else - and she never attended her parents’ funeral, or even visited their graves. Nope, Verona couldn’t handle that and she knew it. Instead, she packed her bags and ran away as far as she could. Lately she’s been entertaining the thought of finally going to visit the graves, although she’s not keen on seeing what Lux have done to her home city. Just hearing about what happened to the river makes her feel sick. Verona is currently twenty-two years old and her birthdate is February 23rd 1991. OCCUPATION Remember the aforementioned pet Pidgeys? Verona has been a Bird Keeper since before she knew what a Bird Keeper was. ALLEGIANCE Verona tried to make the war none of her business when it first broke out, and she probably would’ve been better off wishing that gold would fall from the sky. It didn’t take her all that long to decide she liked Nox better than Lux - the strictness of Lux just never agreed with her - but she didn’t like them enough to actually do anything for them, not if it was going to get her into trouble with the other side. However, as soon as the Republic popped up, Verona was so happy to have the third option that she signed up as soon as she could, without really thinking about it. TRAITS |

SECRETS: ▪ She reckoned, from the way the nurses and doctors talked, that her sister wasn’t going to make it. Her sister recovered, but even if she knew that, Verona doesn’t know if she can face her after just running away like she did. ▪ Verona is one hell of a good cook, but is determined for no one other than her Pokemon to find out. ▪ Her parents were psychic, so why hadn’t they foreseen their deaths? Verona can’t decide if she believes that psychic powers are useless, not all they’re cracked up to be, or straight up don’t really exist. ▪ If Verona pretends to not care about something, chances are she cares about it. A lot. ▪ But then there’s a problem: she never learnt how to care. Her parents didn’t seem to know how to do that either. ▪ Verona is legitimately afraid that her skin will turn orange after eating too many carrots. Too many carrots being more than two in a day. |
