Despite Nox's valiant efforts to keep civilians safe and fight against the weather, Lux struck them down and took the city captive. The battle began during the worst blizzard of the winter, as even the hardened Snowpoint residents struggled to keep themselves insulated against the frigid weather. The town's location had previously allowed it to remain isolated and peaceful in spite of the war, but Lux chose to attempt an ambush, sending soldiers after the city in the middle of the storm. Due to the inclement weather, radio transmissions were taken out for most of the fight, and both sides struggled with communication. Nox guerrillas barely arrived in time to counteract the strike, but many found themselves defeated by foes who refused to even show their faces. Still, they bravely distracted the Lux members from the city itself, preventing them from harming civilians or toppling the important landmarks of the town. Both sides struggled, thanks to the weather, but Lux's cowardice kept it out of Nox eyes as they struck down the determined guerrillas. Although Nox's devoted stand kept civilian casualties to a minimum, members of the faction have expressed concern for their fates now that Lux has taken control of the town. As Snowpoint City loyally supported Nox despite its lack of warlike behavior, there is no telling what horrors Lux may inflict on its innocent people. Hoenn champion Wallace Callais was spotted bravely facing off against his own mentor, Juan de Leon, in order to assist the Nox cause. Sources indicate that Callais emerged unharmed from the match, but he has not been seen since the end of the battle, and has been reported as MIA. Anxious supporters hope that Callais will return to Nox territory soon, but others fear that he could be in Lux captivity. One of Nox's Hoenn leaders and a known friend of Mr. Callais's, Alyssa Akiyama, has made a statement against the champion's disappearance. "The disappearance of Hoenn's Champion is unacceptable," said Ms. Akiyama, who also fought at the battle but was forced to stop thanks to her injuries, "and it will be dealt with appropriately in the very near future. I will see to that myself." When questioned, Ms. Akiyama did not elaborate on her plans. Refugees from Snowpoint have hurried to nearby Canalave City, where Nox is doing its best to assist those wounded by Lux weapons. Although the blizzard abated somewhat during the closing moments of the fight, many guerrillas fell victim to frostbite or hypothermia even if not shot by Lux guns. Nox's newly-appointed second Hoenn leader, Terran Sunderland, has spoken out in support of his wounded Sinnoh comrades. "We cannot let our brothers in Sinnoh suffer any longer. Nox is Nox, no matter the location, and any Lux attempts to attack these refugees will not go unnoticed," said Mr. Sunderland, who is rapidly becoming known for his leadership prowess. In spite of Lux's one-time victory, Nox has not lost hope for Sinnoh. With collateral damage kept to a minimum this time, the city's change of custody could hopefully be only temporary.[/style] |
