The light blindingly burst from the open door in font of him, which made the man lift a suit-covered arm to hide from the glare. He stepped out into the arena, plastering a smile on his face, and he moved his hand that was protecting his eyes from the contrasting light of the dark tunnel above his head. He waved to the crowd, eyes adjusting as he faked looking at them all. Playing the crowd already. These were the battles he was grown up on. The crowd around him, the rectangle, painted field in front of him, an opponent across the way. He looked around the crowd, his Pokémon standing firm and ready on their half of the stadium floor. Green eyes gazed to the other Pokémon – a species he knew all to well. He must have had some luck form Arceus above because this was playing into his hand. Roasted Honchkrow anyone? He took his position on in the make-shift platform where the trainers stood and commanded their Pokémon to return moves at each other until the other fainted, passed out, or a winner was chosen. Matches like these could go on for days and nights; unlike the war battles he was now conditioned too that started and ended in a bloody heap of tragic landscapes. His smile faltered slightly, eyes landing on his opponent. It was her. His heart wept inside his chest, gut wrenching sadness pricked at his eyes, and he took in one shaky breath. “Smokescreen, and then flamethrower.” His command was given as softly as possible, but he was sure the other could have heard it. Ruina beat her wings twice, gusts of wind buffeting the ground below the fiery orange wings. She rose into the air, tail lashing back and forth angrily and a cloud of murky darkness spewed from the lizard’s mouth. It laced across the field below her, covering the field in blackness. Then, the field ignited. Heat washed everything in a shining brilliance as the flames hungrily ate the smoke-covered ground, setting the field ablaze. Ruina glared towards the other Pokémon, roaring in defiance and rage, quivering blue eyes that held a lifetimes worth of sorrows glared at the Honchkrow she was about to fight – completely airborne. True, the only real one she had participated in had been at Lilycove, and that had been a complete disaster. It had been before she had sought someone out to teach her how to use a gun. That person had agreed, and now she knew. But a gun would not be needed for this...no, this would be better, a competition where death was not needed at all. She wished that the war battles themselves could be like this, where people did not have to die, where pokemon did not have to die. Already the battle was starting, with the Charizard dousing the field with a Smokescreen attack. As of right then, her Honchkrow had yet to take to the skies, but upon the Smokescreen, she made a small motion with her hand and he flew up into the air. She let herself survey him for a little while before trying to peer through the smoke, to try and see the Charizard flying about. And she did indeed see it...as soon as a bunch of flames licked the field and nearly got her Honchkrow, if not for the fact that he thought quickly and used Tailwind to quickly climb upwards and away from the dangerous flame. Her opponent was...well, interesting, considering it was none other than the Lux president himself, Xander. She felt she would lose this, that she couldn't win; it was the president himself, after all! He had to have some skill when it came to pokemon battling. She would, however, not give up, and she would definitely try her best against the man called Xander. Because that was really all she could do. Her eyes went skyward once again, watching as her Honchkrow turned to face the equally flying Charizard. He honestly did not have that many effective moves against the Charizard. There was always Sucker Punch, but that only worked if an offensive move was used. There was Heat Wave, but...considering the typing, that would likely not do much. The only real thing he could do was use Fly, and that wouldn't work that well at all, considering how long it could take to use it. She knew just the thing, however, that might just cripple the Charizard severely. It was time to switch already, and so, the Honchkrow disappeared into his pokeball, and out came...an Omastar. Clawing upon each other, tooth and nail, pushing the one above them down to be the one winning the never ending race – and it was all for vanity, because one movement from the devil’s personal wings sent the smoke scattering from their theoretical wall, casting them back down into the fiery pits that was the battlefield. Angry, pained green eyes glared through the rising smoke towards the bird of prey that feasted in the night. Black feathers preened perfectly pristine; a precisely palpable picture of the petty, prideful predacean straight from a physiologus. Those near glistening feathers would look better crisp and tender, broken n places and scarred with ash in others. Ruina roared from her muzzle, spewing licking lashes of flame from the depths of her being, but aiming at nothing. A simple show of rage and anguish--disgust but at the same time excitement--to set things right. As the field erupted in the blaze of an inferno, the avian across the arena became airborne; an array of atramentous arrows abated towards the accursed amphitheatre. Red light flashed as Ruina reared her head, ready to eradicate the pesky mobster, but her fun was squelched before she even had a chance to move further than her head twirling about. The crow was engulfed in the scarlet beam, signaling the return of the would-be predator. Her maw mouthed her miff, messaging a malevolence multiplying and maturing in the midst of her mind; a motivation to maul the mask of the misguided martyr across the marred mural of a battle. Xander’s own green eyes tried to peer through the steadily dying flames on the field to look at the woman whom he despised. She had killed Avi, in cold blood, murdered her out of the air. He should release Fortis immediately; let him have at her again. This time his crush claw wouldn’t miss the vital organ. The two of them had sobbed for almost a day after they retreated from Village Bridge, to lick heir wounds before going back out into the fray again. He would make this woman pay. His own anger flared, but he had to not let loose. Not here. Not at the Olympics with every camera and reporter trained on his being. He had to hold his heightened hormones hostage to hook the collective hamlets of humans humming around his head like a horde of heated hornets into having hope in their harbinger. He just had to maintain his cool in front of everyone. Later on, while in the field of battle, of war, he could deal with his pent up vindictive spirit. Only a few more weeks, potentially a month – but the time it took did not matter, for the wound only festered while the days it took for him to meet Alyssa once more lapse. He had waited this long, what was a little while longer? For now, Alexander would feign a fictitious feud formed from fools forgetting the fact that family and friends fight for their lives routinely, daily, familiarly. The stones rocketed from the ground, after a subdued burst of red light escalated around the girl on the other side of the now blackened arena. The ground scarred by the vicious flames that lapped at the dry earth. However, despite the impressive display of power, the rock- and water- dual type creature’s projectiles missed their mark easily enough. Ruina barely had to move as the smoke lingering in the air blurred the vision of everyone, especially a grounded Pokémon that was forced to peer up into the smoke, from the smoke. Ruina looked down through the smoke with more ease than the other creature had – the smoke being her own, the effects of vision impairment bothered her naught. With out so much as a signal from Xander, the Charizard’s voice trembled, rumbling from deep within her to explode from her throat. With out missing a beat, the anger inside of her formed into a material mass, spiraling and increasingly expanding outward. The brilliant blue ball of bulky, bona fide birr bristling in brusque boldness around the brim of Ruina’s bill before bursting beyond the boundary of her bridle. [/style]

He was just standing there, calmly assessing the battlefield, which...she could appreciate, really. It was something she should have done before leaping headfirst into Lilycove. It hadn't been an extremely long time ago, but still, it felt like it was yesterday when she had almost let all her pokemon die. Since then, she had reached an agreement with the whole lot of pokemon she had. She viewed them as friends, companions, and yet...they wanted to be so much more. She didn't understand their speech, of course, but she could understand their actions, as well as the emotions they tried to convey. Her pokemon wanted to fight with her in battles from now on, no matter what the risk might be, and she...had little choice but to accept their offer. That was why this battle was so nice, she didn't have to worry about her pokemon almost dying. She could battle without worrying for their lives, and they could battle without worrying that the next thing that would happen would be a bullet flying through the air and through their body. It was a shame, then, that the AncientPower missed, though she shouldn't have been surprised about it, and indeed, she wasn't. The Smokescreen from before was still covering the field, though it was starting to dissipate; it couldn't just hover around forever, after all. Unfortunately, it was still there when the Dragonbreath attack went towards her Omastar. The pokemon could probably take the hit, if need be, but Aris wracked her mind for ways to have her pokemon not take the hit. Being a fire-type, it was only logical to think that the Charizard relied mostly on its fire, which wouldn't work too well on the Omastar. It would, then, make sense for Aris to try and make sure the pokemon evaded the attacks that could damage it, while letting it be hit by attacks that would be weak against it. As much as she hated it, she had to admit that the only way to fight the attack would be with something that wouldn't be too effective if it actually hit the Charizard. "What do you think you should do?" she asked of her pokemon, her purple-ish eyes gazing down at him. He didn't turn her way to face her, but instead stared the Dragonbreath down. About halfway through its flight, energy began to gather up in the Omastar's open mouth.
