The first was a new addition to the team, a large and powerful Deino that was currently gnawing on the signpost. The second was ever-faithful Hy, who looked up warily at Elliot. He couldn't understand Pokemon, but even he could tell that Hydro was unsure about this venture. "What's there to worry about, Hy?" asked Elliot, conveniently forgetting about the fact that they were in the middle of Lux territory and operating off of an unreliable-at-best lead. "Feliks told us we'd find help here, and why would a friend of dad's lie? Besides, everyone we've met on this journey has been so helpful! Feliks, Drake, Ana . . . " A silly smile and a blush formed on Elliot's face at the third name, Hy sighing and giving him a quick prod to knock him back into reality. Why did her trainer have to turn into such a lovesick fool? "Trust me, Hy. We'll be fine. And if anything bad happens I'm sure Cruella will protect us," Elliot assured his Marshtomp, smiling reassuringly. Hydro merely sighed and nodded, still suspicious. This wasn't a friend of Terran's like Feliks or a member of the ultra-cool Elite 4 like Drake. This was the leader of a town with known Lux affiliations, and Terran was high up in the Nox roster. But once more Elliot's optimism and trusting nature had caused him to let little details like that slip. He did have a good point, though. Cruella was a powerhouse, and those Deino were really stubborn battlers. She continued to stand protectively in front of her trainer, scarf blowing in the wind as she tried to spot the group's newest acquaintance. The weather, the trees, the connections--it all fell so perfectly into place, and Merope found herself fitting as its leader. Her delicate appearance, her princess-like behavior, and her habit of choosing the most beautiful and elegant of Pokemon (Serperior, Skitty, Liepard, and Stunfisk, of course) all masked the monster behind that face covered in the perfect amounts of make-up. A Staraptor flew over Elliot's head, swooping to Merope's side. He landed on a nearby bench, ruffling his wings. Merope adjusted her parasol, then politely cleared her throat. "Excuse me, but are you Elliot?" She smiled, looking as elegant and harmless as her photo in the Prerequisite made her appear to be. "I'm Merope, and this is my beloved Orion." She gestured at the Staraptor, who scrawed a greeting. "My friend Feliks told me so much about you. I heard you're looking for your father--oh, dear, you must have traveled so far!" She raised her hand to her lips, gasping. "You must be tired, and hungry. Perhaps you'd like some lunch?" She smiled again and extended one gloved hand. "Then we can head back to my home, and see what we can do about your father." Who couldn't trust such a beautifully dressed woman? And that smile--there was nothing sinister about her at all. She genuinely wanted to help Elliot, right? Right. She didn't seem frightening at all! Why was Hy so worried? She looked more like a princess than some Lux leader, and she had a really cool Staraptor! "Yes, I'm Elliot," he replied shyly: even if Merope seemed harmless he had still never met her before, and the boy wasn't exactly the best at talking to strangers. Unless forced to by conveniently-placed wild Pokemon, that is. She then began putting on the whole concerned act, and Elliot fell for it hook, line, and sinker. "We did go pretty far," he admitted. "My Elgyem gets tired if he teleports too much, so I had to do a lot of walking today. But I'm sure if I find my dad it'll all be worth it." Then, however, came the offering of lunch. Looks like your mission was complete, Merope, because Elliot was starving right now. Like a lost child he went to take her extended hand, only for Hy to intercept the two and take each hand in her flippers. She looked up at Merope, giving an "I'm-watching-you" look to the Lux leader. It would take a lot more than a sweet smile and lunch to pacify this Marshtomp. Cruella, meanwhile, was a lot more easily pleased. As soon as the offer of food was made she followed right behind Merope, Elliot, and Hydro. Her blindness and eagerness occasionally caused her to bump into the group, but was it really the Deino's fault? Another Pokemon soon joined the group, though. The sound of a Pokemon forcing its way out of its ball was heard as Supernova emerged from Elliot's pocket, looking at Orion with an amazed look on his face. He immediately began excitedly blabbering at the poor Staraptor, talking about how cool he was and how one of these days Supernova would be big and tough like him. The bird had one hell of an ego, but put him with a stronger, bigger bird and he'd turn into a fanboy in seconds. Or declare himself their eternal rival. Depended on his mood. He glanced down at Supernova, then kept flying. He didn't look it right now, but on the battlefield he was Merope's silent monster, a more vicious opponent than any Hydreigon. Those massive claws had torn the throats of Pokemon and humans alike, and even now he was waiting for the order to swoop down and maim the boy and his Pokemon alike. But Merope did not give that order, and so Orion kept soaring above, silent and foreboding. Merope, however, played the charming mother role. "Well, you won't have to walk much farther. Goodness, if I had known that you didn't have proper transportation, I would have ridden out to meet you! Tara is strong enough to carry two, after all." Through the streets of Goldenrod went. It was a proper kingdom, and Merope was its beautiful Queen--no, Princess, princess was better for marketing. Suddenly, her house was before them, brilliant white and well-kept. There were rose bushes out in front, and they had just started to bloom. "This is my home. There's an extra bedroom, so you can stay as long as you'd like." She smiled, then opened the door to the house. The many windows made the cozy home bright, and there were plenty of plants around the front room. Merope then gestured at the sofa. "Have a seat. I'll go let my cook know that lunch needs to be prepared." The sofa was large and white, and covered in a fine suede. Upon closer examination, one could find cat hair clinging to it. The hair's source was lounging on the matching love seat: a Liepard dozing in the sun. She glanced up at Merope, then yawned. "Keep Elliot company, Ophelia dearest. I'll be back in just a moment." And in a swirl of her skirts, Merope was gone. All that was left in the room was Ophelia lounging on the love seat, and Orion, now perched on a large imitation branch. They looked amazing! Johto was truly more beautiful than the big cities of Unova and the borderline tropical climate of Hoenn, especially the peaceful town of Cherrygrove. Even hyperactive, dog-like Cruella and suspicious, ever-vigilant Hy seemed to relax in the town's atmosphere. These feelings of peace only intensified as they reached Merope's mansion. "Its beautiful . . . " Elliot commented as he looked at the house, almost transfixed by how neat and brilliant it was. Was this where he could stay while he looked for his father? Between this and getting to stay at the Pokemon League Building with Drake, he was having all sorts of fun experiences. It was like going to a bunch of amazing hotels! The boy sat down on the sofa, looking up at Merope and smiling brightly. "This is really nice of you, Miss Merope," the boy commented, a bit more formal than usual. But when you were in the presence of what was pretty much royalty, every bit of formality helped. "Thanks a ton for helping me out!" He relaxed further into the couch and relaxing, Cruella sitting down by his feet like a loyal dog. Really, though, she was just waiting for him to doze off so she could try and gnaw on the furniture. God damn did that furniture look delicious. Hy hopped onto the couch beside her trainer, looking worriedly at him. She was still a little suspicious, but in the face of all of this generosity her doubt started to waver. Merope really did seem as nice as all of the Johto pres said she was. Supernova, on the other hand, wasted no time. Taking advantage of his small yet pudgy body size, he perched onto the small amount of space remaining next to Orion and tried to chat with the bigger bird. Of course, his first question was wondering how to properly make Close Combat happen. No matter how often he tried, all the Starly was able to accomplish was making an ass of himself whenever he tried. I'd write a massive block of text right here, but Orion is a fucking bird. He's not Stalkereon, who has the dignity of a complex backstory, or N's Zoroark, who has a similarly complex backstory that no one will ever care about because N's Zoroark will forever be outshadowed by everything else, ever. Trufax: people don't give a shit about N's Zoroark until you crush his ribcage and have him die, coughing up blood, in a sobbing N's arms.

Orion glanced down at the Starly, then folded his wings and gave the bird-equivalent of a sigh. Children these days. He then raised one claw and in a swift, single motion, he slashed the air, talons causing the air to whistle with the speed. That was one of the many techniques he used in his own Close Combat. Perhaps the Starly could practice it, though the Starly's feet weren't as developed as the Staraptor's.

He watched Elliot like a hawk, though. At any minute he'd pounce. Don't fucking mess with Hydreibird.

Cooks weren't the only thing Merope had in her house. The noise attracted the attention of a strange Gardevoir, one that didn't seem to be amused by the goings-on of the rest of the house. He floated in, then stared at Elliot.

If that wasn't creepy enough, his trainer soon followed--a fucking huge, incredibly bendy albino with long, knobby fingers. He turned his dark red eyes to Elliot, then joined his Gardevoir in staring.

Before long, Nascour spoke.

"Who the fuck are you."

When he lifted his talon to mimic Orion's strike, the pudgy bird put all of the force he could into the kick. The result was that he nearly fell right off of the perch he was standing on, only the hasty beating of wings stopping him from faceplanting on the floor. In his consternation he hastily blurted that he totally meant to do that, Hy knowingly chuckling from her comfy seat on the couch. Then entered another figure, and once more Hy's intuition kicked in. She glared at Nascour somewhat hostilely but mostly suspiciously. Elliot, on the other hand, mostly just recoiled from the ugliness. The man was not exactly model material, and his Slendermanesque proportions and hideous face would be enough to make grown men cry. However, Elliot was nothing if not a horrible judge of character, so after momentarily being stunned into silence by Nascour's hideous face he regained his composure and nervously tried to make conversation. "O-Oh, h-hello there," Elliot stuttered out, still unnerved by the man's presence. "I-I'm Elliot. M-Miss Merope is letting me stay for a bit. Is s-she helping you too?" He was still left quite chilled by Nascour's hideousness, but he wouldn't let that be enough to judge the man. It just wouldn't be right to do that. . . . Besides, he'd have plenty of legitimate material to judge the man with later, if everything went as this narrator plans. Orion stared at Supernova for a moment, the Predator Pokemon considering displaying the majesty of Close Combat on one of the targets nearby. But instead he kept his claws down, talons digging into the wood.

Needless to say, the Staraptor was not impressed. He gave a gruff "brrr," the only sound he had uttered thus far, saying that the Starly would get it eventually. Most fledglings did. It came with practice, after all.

He regarded Nascour coldly. His Mistress had ordered that the boy remain alive. If Nascour were to pounce, Orion would swoop in first and tear the albino's eyes from his head. This was Merope's prey. Only if the Mistress said it was allowed would Orion allow another to enjoy the kill.
