The nails of her fingers dig into the pink leggings over her knees as she attempts to calm herself. Some days are better than others. This is not one of those days. Her appearance is slightly disheveled, hair fallen from the two ponytails its usually in, jacket open rather than buttoned up, her aura is erratic and flaring out of her control with each wave of strong emotion or memory she feels coming back. They're not distant either. They're her recent past. The battle on Iron Island, Wes leaving her at the hospital when he switched sides, fleeing to Unova out of fear for the life of her pokemon, finding out Cipher is still active, the one friend she had in Unova being killed... It's too much. I can't-- She bends over at the waist, her forehead closer to the stone she's sitting on. You have to have control. The woman sits up, eyes open rather than closed as she tries to get a rein on her emotions. Calm. Control. She forces her grip to relax on her knees and she inhales, holding it before slowly exhaling. You need to be in control of everything about and around you.

Riley can see many things on this mountain, most familiar after years of harsh training on the peaks. He knows the ins and outs, the cracks and dips, and he's well aware that there's someone at the top. He just has no idea who. So he and Beowulf flocked to the foot of Sinnoh's oldest landmark. It's been said that the home of Giratina can be accessed through the mountain, a twisted land called the Distortion World in myths and legends. He's never believed it, at least not when he was sober.

So Riley and his dear Lucario have begun the trek to the top. Riley has already lost part of his home to Nox, and he will not sacrifice any more, especially the sacred ground of Aura Guardians. Beowulf agrees and has been bounding up the mountain. Beowulf has much more advanced aura powers, and he, by now, has assessed the situation and knows who's meditating on the peak. An old friend, a friendly, kind one. She had fed him before, so Beowulf quickly refuses the idea of informing his trainer. It would be better to wait for the both of them, especially if the Lucario wanted food. Little did he know, he probably wouldn't get any.

Riley had always been against over-feeding his pokemon; Beowulf needed to stay strong and lean, to get maximum results on the battlefield. Of course, when the pokemon ate, they only ate the best.

He sees a flash of orange hair, and Riley has obtained the information he needs to know. His shoes don't make a sound, he is sure to walk carefully over to the friend. Beowulf follows, just as quiet as his trusted equal trainer. Riley wouldn't dare break the Aura Guardian's meditation process, but he does not hesitate to lower himself onto the ground beside her. His legs are twisted almost unnaturally, but the Lucario beside him is far more flexible, and by now, Beowulf in lying on his stomach, with his hind paws firm beside his head.

She's a friend. Riley knows he won't scare her. Besides, an Aura Guardian such as herself she be able to sense a powerful aura so close to her.

With her emotions and memories controlling her rather than the other way around, there's no hope for her to be able to keep a cap on her Aura-based abilities in her current state. You're failling. she tells herself, biting down on her lower lip. In the Coronet mountains where you trained, too. Her jaw tightens. You must do better than this. Then her concentration breaks, releasing her Aura she's fought to contain and prevent from behaving erratically in a flash. Grass on the ground around the rock, and some of the leaves from the trees wither and blacken with the sudden burst of energy shot through their systems - it's like spontaneous combustion. Her eyes open, too, when the burst of her Aura reveals to her someone is next to her on the large rock embedded in the earth. She turns abruptly, eyes unable to fully hide the surprise and miniscule fear she holds until she stares at him for a short while and allows his face to register in her brain. "...R...Riley..." her expression softens some and she manages to smile. She couldn't control herself during the meditation she was just doing. And worse yet in front of somebody she looks up to as a teacher. Pathetic.

As he goes along with the meditation, Riley inhaled and exhaled as slowly as he could; it calmed the mind and relaxed the body. And with the thin air on top of mt. Coronet, it also helped the respiratory system adjust. Riley didn't open his eyes, but he noticed the woman next to him wasn't keeping a steady breathing pattern. It was part of the reason her meditation wasn't working, Riley had sensed tenseness in her ever since sitting down. The orange haired girl needed to relax.

He senses the aura build up, but does nothing. Riley just opens his navy eyes and watches intently, observing the leaves and grass blacken and die. Beowulf stares as well, plucking a blade of grass and observing it. The Lucario knows Rui's stressed as well, and he grunts and nods at Riley, still twisted and stretched. The Lucario is an extremely advanced aura guardian, it is very hard for a human to reach that level.

Rui has opened her eyes, and Riley does nothing but look at her blankly. He understands, but she must not. His expression is hard to read, and although he doesn't want to speak, he does. Speaking will interrupt the moment, but surely a few words won't matter. "No control." The words slip out of his mouth like marmalade, he's said those two words so many times before, and he will continue to say them until he has obtained perfect control, and Rui has too. Riley is younger than the woman next to him, but his training has been going on for a longer period of time, and according to the monks, he is her senior.

No control. Again. Ever since the battle, she'd been unable to fully gain control of herself in meditation. She still can't understand the full reasoning behind it, though she imagines it's due to her inability to hold her concentration for an extended period of time now compared to then. "Y-yes..." she states, sounding similar to a child that's been mildly scolded by a parent for doing something wrong. "...you could...call it that..." She doesn't want to admit to him how long it's been going on. She imagines he'd be displeased. At least he's not a mind-reader. The orange-haired woman brings her gaze back to meet his once again, this time without the urge to look away. "I haven't seen you in a long time..." she attempts to change the subject smoothly, instead hoping to catch up a little on what her old teacher has been doing, "...either of you." She glances at the Lucario by Riley's side and smiles softly at him.

He's not a mind reader, no, but he can sense quite well that Rui is upset. That's not an aura ability, it's just something that Riley can see, as it's quite obvious to the human eye right now. She is stressed, but it doesn't seem as if that's the only problem. There's something else bothering her. Riley can feel it. He nods his head slightly and tilts his head, confused with her statement. What else would she call this feeling? It is stress, isn't it? Maybe it could be something else. Could Rui be sad? Riley didn't see any reason, it wasn't apparent to him. Although the Aura Guardian often had a glum exterior, Riley was never truly sad. It wasn't the correct word. He was bored. But could Rui be sad? Or maybe she's guilty? Or is it...

"Or disappointment?" Riley speaks simply, eyes fluttering to watch the aura of the woman. If it flared, he had hit something. Some sort of a past...She must have been disappointed recently. If there was nothing, maybe it simply was stress. But everyone stressed. Riley stressed, Beowulf stressed, they often stressed together. They cared about the same things, and both cared about Rui. She was in a bad state, in fact it wasn't very healthy for her aura to be under such constant negative emotion. She needed relaxation, happiness, and as much positivity as she could get. Unfortunately, these three things were not Riley's forte, and he would leave it to Beowulf to deal with her.

Riley offered a smile, although quite uncomfortable, to Rui. It had been a while, and it was very good to see a friend again. Beowulf offered a smile not long after, a rather toothy grin. Good to see you again. The thought was projected through aura, from the Lucario. Beowulf was always friendlier and even kinder than his trainer. And rui was always so sweet and giving that Beowulf couldn't help but enjoy her company.

Although it was sent through aura, Riley doesn't catch the thought. It was sent solely to Rui, not for Riley's ears. As a Lucario, Beowulf has trained and learned the ability to project a thought to a specific person in the area.

It's a weak attempt to hide the hurt expression on her face, though the flare of her Aura is a dead giveaway. "P...perhaps..." she manages to say weakly. There is disappointment - lots of it. Disappointment in Wes for behaving so erratically, and thinking the best way to go about things was to leave her with just a letter and a couple of pokeballs. Disappointment in Lux for allowing Cipher of all things to work with them. But more than anything, there's disappointment in herself for so many reasons. So many she can't even think to list them in her head at this moment. Rui looks up when she hears the Lucario's voice in her mind, and she feels herself relax a bit, though the hurt hasn't left her gaze. ~Good to see you as well.~ she thinks, allowing herself to lower barriers she'd been trained to put around her mind so that the Lucario can hear her. ~I hope you're doing well?~ The woman turns her gaze back to Riley, before reaching out gently and placing her fingertips on the back of his hand. "But how are you, Master?" she asks him, looking into his darker gaze for the answer as well.
