Wait, what's a trigger?
Urban dictionary definition: "A strong emotional reaction set off by a set of words or image that reminds a person of a traumatic event." This could be anger or fear or flashbacks, but it's really, really sucktacular to be triggered.
So you allow triggering role play?
Some triggers do fit within the PG-13 boundaries, and we do allow it when it's handled respectfully and carefully. The requirement, though, is that you add a visible, non-condescending trigger warning to the top of your thread.
How do I do that?
Just make a big font that says "TRIGGER WARNING" and explain the trigger in the thread with a few simple words. If you include any sort of condescending remarks about how it isn't for the "weak of heart," the entire staff team will punt you across several mine-ridden football fields in Hoenn. Triggers are serious things, and we don't take them lightly here.
Well damn, what threads do I trigger warn?
In general, any threads containing:
- Non-consensual sexual actions (rape, sexual abuse, statutory rape, dubcon, etc)
- Emotional, physical, or sexual abuse
- Eating disorders
- Substance abuse
- Self mutilation
- Suicide
- Torture
There are probably others that should be covered, but these are the general TW-worthy threads.
Someone has a thread that triggers me, what do I do?
Talk to the staff, we'll get on it in a half a second. There's almost always a staff member online; Lou and Tik spend most of their days here, so you can get ahold of them relatively easy.
What if I refuse to use a trigger warning?
What if you were suddenly banned forever? No, seriously, if the staff tells you to trigger-warn a thread and you argue back, we will permaban you, no ands, ifs, or buts.
