LUX: PALMER 'I miss the old, colorful world...' |
FULL NAME Palmer Jericho Emmerich. He is also referred to as daddy or dad by his son. Alternatively, Idiot, Tycoon, Jericho, Moron, Palmy, Rosie, Manchild, and The Crowned Fool. BACKGROUND Palmer was born in Veilstone City, and back then in the swingin' 70s, Forty Two years ago, June 28th, 1971, it was a place for all sorts of crazy things to happen. His parents weren't very proud people, and even possibly dysfunctional overall. Either way, Palmer was a happy boy! He didn't need much of an allowance, and video games weren't out yet, so he mostly just had fun playing around the city and things. He was quite the adventurer, and his parents actually never seemed to notice his disappearance. While only receiving a slightly above average education, Palmer needed to be taught lessons about the bad habits picked up from his parents. Stealing, mugging, and even abuse to other people. He didn't really know better of course, it was just how he was raised. Eventually, his parents were arrested, and Palmer was left alone by himself and a Pokemon he had conned off of his parents when his dad held a fisherman at gunpoint for it, then gave it to Palmer to throw the blame off him. It was a Dratini! His first friend, and quite a hefty price in some circles. When Palmer went to go hand it back out of apology, the fisherman took pity on the newly-orphaned boy, and decided to let him keep it for the harsh wild that awaited him. He could always catch another at this spot anyway, so Palmer was very happy to be graced by such benevolence. Palmer led a very odd childhood. He went to school regardless of losing his parents, thinking that some school where free education was a benefit mixed with a gigantic bunch of cons was much better than nothing. Though the quality of the school was poor, the students nearly being all troubled and delinquents, Palmer had a rough time in school, but kept at his own devices, regardless of being shanked once in the stomach. He actually became quite brilliant, if dim on politics in general. It didn't concern him, and it was most certainly not a topic. Economics, maybe. He likes money, and money is always good to have in case of an emergency. Despite school being rough, he learned how to be just as rough, if not rougher than the rest of them, tougher than the best of them, rougher than leather. Palmer was able to overpower other children easily, though he usually just adventured and got some smarts in him because it helped bide his time. He read while exploring, finding he had a knack for doing something productive and something fun at the same time, allowing him to better use his days and weeks better. Of course, everyone thinks he's an idiot because he never graduated... But the truth is, no one from that school did, because it was mainly free and only volunteers were there to help, or just smoke the class away and let the kids do whatever. He left at about 12 years old, fresh with a good amount of knowledge, and he wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the cities. He went to Twinleaf Town, where he decided to hang out, calm down, and meet a few friends along the way. Palmer made friends with a current prodigal son's father, enjoying his company and making friends with him. After being relatively reckless one day, he decided to rush off with his friend to the lake, where he was attacked by a Pokemon he can't remember. It was really a Gyarados, and he and his friend were saved by Professor Rowan and the starter Pokemon, though for the life of him, he cannot remember what happened. Out of shame, he decided to leave Twinleaf, and go on a life-spanning journey across Sinnoh to attempt to make something extensive of his life. Years passed. He grew up to be a hardy, strong, brilliant man with a lot of powerful Pokemon, and his overall demeanor changed to that of a gutsy adventurer with a big, strong heart. He began standing up for the weak and rescuing trainers that were inexperienced against relatively hardy and powerful Pokemon using his fully evolved Dragonite and other Pokemon. He became somewhat of a hero, attracting the attention of women, and one in particular... Palmer began to fall in love with her, and began to settle down with her, putting his journey on hold for what would seem like forever. That all quickly changed when she got pregnant with his baby boy. She became bitter, conniving, hateful, and just mean in general to him. He never exactly learned about what women go through, so he thought she had lost complete and utter love for him, making him a bit sad deep down... Regardless, he did the right thing and stayed with her, enduring her abuse and baseless hate, and their child was born... He was ecstatic, and named him Pearl, because he was one of the pearls he had in this great big oyster of life. His wife didn't change around Palmer. She was extremely kind and loving to Pearl, but hated Palmer and thought him a foolish freak with no sense or passion for his family. When Pearl was just 6 years old, he moved out out of pure sadness and depression, unable to take his wife's taunts and threats anymore. He doesn't know how his wife is, nor does he ever care to know again. His son is a much different story, and wants to help him as much as he can, regardless of alignment. He became less trusting of pretty faces, vowing just to keep distance from her and only use his dashing appearance and fame to score. It was a bitter lifestyle, but his wife was a literal soul-killer, so he cared not about loyalty or that junk. It was an abusive relationship in his eyes, and all he wanted was peace and doing what he did best. Fighting and getting stronger. Palmer stayed in relatively good contact with his son, meeting new and powerful Pokemon around the region, as well as elsewhere. By now, his strength rivaled that of the former Champion Cynthia, who gained a bit of affinity for. They both liked to battle, but he couldn't find the words to go get to know her better and, god forbid, have someone who cared about him other than his son. But that never came to really pass, and he just kept silent. Soon, he was recognized by an up-and-coming place known as the Battle Frontier. It was a place comprised of the region's strongest and smartest trainers, and even showed him all the many different people and gimmicks attached to all of them. His gimmick? No-nonsense, no gimmicks, just him and his skills backing his own power and smarts. He would be established as the Tower Tycoon, and he was heralded as one of the most powerful trainers in Sinnoh. Things looked pretty sweet. He began to bond with all the other people, and even though he didn't give off an impression of intelligence, he was friendly and outgoing, finally able to have a job he liked with people who would at least care about him. After Galactic, he realized something though. Wouldn't there be more fanatics like them to destroy the peace that was laid out for them by the Twinleaf Sons? So he started to look at all the regions as he began to formulate a plan to help people using the Pokemon League. They were there, they were strong, they were good people...right? So he went to them, and presented the plan that would essentially give them the guidance needed to help make the world a better place to live in general. He left with a smile on his face and went back to his tower to catch some rest. Then the war happened. Everything started falling apart. All the eager, fresh young faces were replaced by ones of tested bitterness and jaded construct, and there was no longer a love of Pokemon. There were challengers there to test their survival skills, and if they lost, some of them would make the obituaries. It began to affect Palmer very deeply... Soon, the Battle Frontier was absorbed in favor of the League itself, and Palmer was stuck on Lux's side with his friends. How did it come to this, when it was only just a plan to help others and give them a chance to go off on their journey unimpeded? Whatever the case, he was now an important part of Lux, being so very high up and famous. He was a big name, but the League was an even bigger name. Without his consent, he was the PR, and mainly help for advertising Lux as the future and hope for the world. Things just kept getting worse and worse as time progressed, with things only increasing in hostility. Kanto was a mess, Johto was too, Hoenn...dear Arceus, would it ever recover? Sinnoh was becoming a bloody warzone and then some as he just watched from atop the the tower... Then even more bad news came. Now there was even more hostility and even more brawling, and to make matters even worse, he had to fight too. It all came to a low point when he found out Cynthia had committed suicide, and he became quite a bit heartbroken due to his crush. Nevertheless, he had to look all happy and lovely for the camera. They couldn't see the tower of strength sobbing like a baby, could they? He cried alone in his bathroom for what seemed like days, when it was only about 40 minutes. He became a bit aloof and depressive after that, only smiling for the camera for a couple weeks. Palmer was now a crownless king, and he soon sobered up regardless to keep on living for four things only. One was the most important - his beloved son, for whom he truly wanted to see grow and live life. Two was his Pokemon. Despite it all, they had been there for him when they needed it most. Even though his Milotic died of disease and he couldn't get to it in time, his Pokemon were there to pick him up, time and again. Number three was his Battle Frontier friends. He couldn't simply abandon his friends, could he? Regardless if they thought him a useless loser, he would try to please them by remaining on the side of Lux. The fourth, but nowhere near last in importance, was the chance of going back to the way things were. He wanted to help it all come back, and by Arceus he was gonna do it, or pass on and join the fallen in the afterlife. Palmer can now be found either at the Battle Tower, or, when things get amazingly dangerous, his little hidden away bunker somewhere in Unova. Despite all the carnage and hysteria, Palmer still has his optimism about him, and he's still friendly and helpful to others, even if that mentality is long forgotten now by others. OCCUPATION Tower Tycoon, what little meaning it has nowadays. He is also a figurehead and PR for Lux, and is used to give Lux hope and something to believe in. ALLEGIANCE Lux, out of wanting to please his friends, and try to give the people something to believe in, even if it's false hope and false advertising. He does not agree with Lux's tactics, and wants to try to fix them so they can be what he actually intended, if possible. TRAITS |
POSITIVE TRAITS: ▪ Friendly. He's a real good fella. ▪ Outgoing, he loves to stay in shape and optimal strength, despite that muffin top. ▪ Actually quite smart. It's politics that he fails at immensely. ▪ lHe's really strong. Both durable and quite strong. Can easily bench 100 or so. ▪ Fatherly tendencies. He loves to help others like if they were his own sons and daughters. ▪ He's good for morale, even though he's a bit of a sad sack now. | NEGATIVE TRAITS: ▪ He cannot politics. If you asked him to debate, he'd most likely just go 'Uhh... Heroism?' Never apply him for politics. You will regret it. ▪ Too kind to be Lux. He's really a big softie, and can get quite annoying with trying to do the 'right' thing, which is usually what he thinks is right. ▪ Not good with guns. The most you could give him and not expect to shoot himself with is a bolt action rifle. He is decent with that, though. ▪ He's got a bit of an anger problem if one of his Pokemon gets too injured. ▪ He's not opposed to fighting, but he can get a bit watery-eyed if he has to fight with anyone he knows a lot. ▪ Actually pretty depressing if you ask him opinions on certain matters, the war, Cynthia, etc. |
LIKES: ▪ FOOD. Fast food, especially. It's how the clown keeps that muffin top. ▪ His son. He will help his son with most anything and be the father that he needs right now. ▪ The Battle Frontier, even though it's warped as it is. He likes his tower quite a lot more. That goes both ways. ▪ Pokemon and adventure in general! If the world wasn't at war, he'd be out having adventures again and catching more Pokemon. ▪ Video games. He cannot get enough of them, and you can often find him gaming in downtime. | DISLIKES: ▪ Overly giant conflicts. Obviously, he does not like the war. ▪ Threats toward his son. Arceus help you if you're dumb enough to pull some bloody trick on him where you kidnap his son. ▪ Utterly drop-dead serious situations. Humor is needed to enjoy life, even though his outlook on it is becoming grim. ▪ Abuse of power. He's the Tower Tycoon, yes, but you're just an asshead to him if you blatantly abuse your position. ▪ You hurt his Pokemon severely, you're not going to be breathing for much longer if you don't have some sort of plan. ▪ His wife. Dear Arceus, if there was ever a man with justified resentment over a person, it's Palmer with his damnable wife. |
SECRETS: ▪ He only flirts with women because he's hoping he can actually find someone better than his wife. ... OK, he also enjoys close contact like nothing else. ▪ He cries over video games with sad moments. He also cries over movies, even if they're cartoons. It's just touching to him, you see. ▪ Wants to divorce his wife officially and get her out of his life since the boy has left the nest, but is afraid that some extremists will go after Pearl instead. ▪ He's got an unsent letter written to Cynthia about how he'd like to get in touch with her and get to know her better. Obviously, there's a telltale reason why it is unsent. ▪ You'll never hear him admit this unless you hold him at gunpoint, but he's got quite the fancy for things like fanart of Pokemon...specifically some Normal types... |
