Few people outside of his long estranged family would likely call him anything else. BACKGROUND Balendin was born in Blackthorn City and is currently 38 years old. The majority of Balendin's family live in Blackthorn City although he rarely visits them. The Gideon family is fairly prominent amongst the Dragon User Clan there. Considered a dragon training prodigy at a young age, Balendin left his hometown on a self appointed exile after the head of the clan told him that he would never be a dragon master due to his philosophy on pokemon. After leaving home, he proved to be a skilled Pokemon trainer and quickly made a name for himself in Johto by beating the gyms there. Balendin was then recruited into the military to serve in a special Pokemon Trainer division and served a number of tours of duty before he was honorably discharged. After being hardened by the experiences of brutal warfare, he attempted to returned to the simple life as a Pokemon trainer and once again began challenging gyms this time in Kanto and Hoenn. His skill won him the attention of the Pokemon league. He was eventually recruited into the Indigo Plateau Elite Four. Although he found much success in the Elite Four, he held his position as an Elite Four member for only a short time before resigning due to finding the job unsatisfying. Eventually Balendin began a new career taking down high profile criminals and terrorists with large bounties on their heads. He quickly found this job to be largely suitable towards his talents and became a rather feared person within the criminal underworld as well as gaining a considerable fortune. Balendin was later hired by the pokemon league to investigate and possibly eliminate a new possibly radical group that was meeting secretly within Cerulean Cave. This small group was what would one day become Lux. Balendin discovered it and infiltrated its ranks. He found their message to greatly match his goals and philosophies particularly those of their main speaker Renae Oziel. Balendin became a founding member of the official Lux faction and aided in their rise to power. Due to this status, he has understandably held many positions of power in Lux although most were behind the scenes. Recently, he has become a more publicly known figure. OCCUPATION Under the old world system, Balendin would likely be referred to as a Veteran trainer. Since the Lux factions rise, Balendin has held many high positions behind the scenes including Commander of the Sentinels, "true" Champion of Kanto, and late president Owen's personal adviser/guard/babysitter. He has become more publicly known by becoming Lux Vice President. Even with his new more political appointment, he still does work befitting a Sentinel and still maintains strong ties to them. ALLEGIANCE Balendin is a Lux founder and a true Lux through and through. He despises Nox and what they stand for and has no love for the newly founded Republic. That being said, he believes Lux as fallen far from its true path and descended into greed and corruption. He works to purge Lux of this rot and restore it to the state it was meant to exist in. The crowds were filling into the area set aside for the public in Indigo square safely set a far distance away from Xander's statue. Special seats up front were reserved for Lux officials. Security forces checked IDs and maintained order throughout the large gathering. All major and a number of minor Lux news stations were present. The Vice President's address would be cast on all Lux airways. Despite his large role in both the founding and running of Lux over the years, Balendin had never addressed the public. Indeed, he had managed to keep under the radar of the Lux public. He had always found it better to allow more charismatic figures to shine in the public light. Unfortunately the situation had changed. Balendin was needed to serve Lux in a different manner and he would do whatever was needed to aid Lux in its restoration. Balendin's dragonite began its descent towards the stage and podium set up for him to speak from. The Dragonite touched down gently on the reinforced stage. His Garchomp already waited on the stage. As Balendin took his place behind the podium, the two dragon pokemon took a place behind him on either side. The two would have a role to play soon enough. It was time. It was time for Lux to hear the truth. "People of Lux. I have come before you to bring to you vital information." Balendin paused for a time before starting to speak again. "I realize that after that statement many of you have already discounted anything else I will say. You have suffered far to long under silver tongued bureaucrats and politicians. Those that would tell you any lies to get ahead. I can only ask you to trust me. I know it may be hard to gain your trust, but hopefully with time I will be able to show you my sincerity." "There have been rumors and slander coming out of Johto against Lux. For far to long, Olivine and Cianwood have been trapped under Nox occupation. Our brothers and sisters in Johto have been forced under the Nox yoke by brutal Nox invasions. They have been trapped behind enemy lines and they cry out for help. There are those who have made claims that Lux seeks to abandoned our own. Let me assure that Lux would never willingly abandon Olivine, Cianwood, or any of its people trapped behind enemy lines." "Some have claimed that Lux has lost its will to fight. That we are ready to give up our mission of justice. That we are ready to surrender to terrorists and anarchist and allow the Nox to run rampant unchecked. Let me assure you that we will never have peace with the Nox until one of two conditions come to be. One is the Nox lay down their arms and surrender themselves unconditionally to Lux justice. The other is every Nox dead or locked away in prison. Nox has made it clear that the first option is not on the table. If ever Lux declares a peace with Nox outside one of these two conditions, you know that this peace was brokered not by true Lux, but by cowards and traitors." Balendin had not noticed that his voice had gotten loader and more forceful was he talked until now. He allowed himself to clam down. He needed to reveal the whole reason for this meeting. "My reason for being here today has nothing to do with the terrible slanders coming out of Johto. I have unfortunate information to share, but it is information all Lux must know. Some time ago our beloved President Owen was viciously murdered. Rightfully Blaine should have taken his place as the next president of Lux, but instead, despite the complete lack of legal legitimacy, Alexander Cromwell ascended to the presidency." "The people were told that Owen's death was the result of Nox assassins and evidence initially pointed to this being the truth. As more in depth investigation was done, it became clear that the truth was not what Lux expected. A team, led by myself, began to pursue the case in earnest and we have discovered the truth behind Owen's death." "Owen was murdered not by Nox, but by those he had trusted. Greed killed Owen. It was those who had penetrated the noble ranks of Lux not to pursue a better world, but instead reach for power and to line their own pockets. Owen was stabbed in the back by those whose duty it was to serve and protect him." "Three of the conspirators to his assassination have been revealed, but no doubt more still hide among us. Rest assured that myself and others will continue to pursue these traitors. We will find them and they will pay for the crimes they have committed." "Who are the three that we know betrayed Lux? The three that killed our president for their own selfish pursuits of wealth and power were none other than Liang Helian, Ardos Verich, and Alexander Cromwell." After revealing the names Balendin snapped his fingers and his two dragon pokemon took to the sky. They hovered above the statue of Xander. It was dragonite who struck first hitting the statue with a devastating hyper beam. It was followed by a shower of blue flaming comets sent forth by Garchomp. The statue came tumbling down. "Lux has suffered much at the hands of traitors such as these. In there time in the Lux ranks Xander and Ardos have no doubt soiled and ruined the Lux name. Hoenn lies in ruins from their insanity. Are ranks are filled with spies and traitors. Our beloved president Owen lies dead. To you, the good people of Lux, I promise that Blaine and I will focus our greatest effort on restoring Lux to the proper path. We will weed out the traitors and the spies. We will restore Lux to its glory. We will continue the crusade against injustice and terror in the world. We will not give up on you who we are sworn to protect. Do not give up on us. "All Hail Glorious Lux!" Balendin realized that he was short of breath. In what was a very unprecedented occurrence, he had let his passion overtake him twice in one day. He had been practically yelling at the end.
