Leaving out the title can be hazardous to your health. BACKGROUND Kiyo wanted to run the Fighting Dogo since he was but a small child of 10. He idolized the best fighting trainers in the Tohjo Area, Bruno and Chuck. He spent every day brushing his teeth, eating his veggies, and staying away from drugs so that he, too, could be a champion. He trained until he couldn't breathe and still trained some more. Being the best was his destiny. It was his calling. It was his right, and the universe knew and respected that. When he hit 18, he challenged the Dojo's leader and won with ease. He and his new disciples changed from the old school of brawl-happy Machamp and Primeape to the dignified martial artists of the Hitmon- line. It was a golden age for the dojo, attracting more trainers each day to spar with each other and their Pokemon. Saffron City seemed fast on track to becoming the Pokemon League's 6th Gym-housing city, with Kiyo and his dojo pretty much waiting for their official nomination. Then they realized they had competition. Namely Sabrina and her Psychics, who were totally freaking broken! much stronger than the fighting-type warriors of the dojo. The League requested they fight to see who held the privilege of being Saffron City's gym leader, and fight they did. Sabrina trounced Kiyo every time, and within a few days the League sponsorship was hers for the taking. The disciples Kiyo had worked so hard to maintain lost faith, returning to their old ways of brawling. Kiyo quickly went from karate master to karate joke. For a while he grew desperate, even giving out free Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan to anybody who could defeat him to try and re-spread the old ways. However, he quickly realized this was a lost cause and left to train on Mt. Mortar. He lived the life of a hermit for years, continuing to preach the benefits of the Hitmon to all who would listen. Recently, however, he's heard that the ongoing war has been going very poorly for his hometown of Saffron. Now it's time for the hero of the dojo to come back and kick it into fighting shape! With the help of a shady, murderous mob leader, o'course. OCCUPATION Kiyo is a Black Belt, but he prefers the much more grandiose title of Karate King. No matter what you call him, though, nothing changes the fact that he's an expert at all sorts of unarmed combat and head of a not-so-illustrious fighting dojo in Saffron. He could've been a gym leader, but Sabrina kicked his ass every time they fought and got the E4's approval in his stead. ALLEGIANCE The anarchy and chaos in Saffron City brings a tear to Kiyo's eye. He has to fight for Lux. Skell's the only order in this hellhole of a wasteland, and that's who she fights for. It's dirty work, sure, but a true blue hero needs to get his hands dirty from time to time to ensure the safety of his people. Besides, Sabrina's on Nox.
