LUX: NATE STRAUSS LIFE'S ALWAYS GOT A BEAT; SOMETIMES YOU JUST GOTTA GO WITH IT, Y'KNOW?     |
FULL NAME Nathaniel Alexander Strauss is his full-given name, but he often prefers to be called Nate for short. Some people have been known to call him Strauss, but it's nothing more than a formality. BACKGROUND Originally from Kanto, born and raised in Saffron City on March 13th. Nate's family was well-known and highly regarded in Saffron back in the days of peace, where his father, mother, and younger brother all helped run a small family dojo in the lower end of the city. Nate was very loyal to his parents when he was young, and had the simple life of any given kid in the shining city. Not long after he celebrated his tenth birthday, Nate welcomed his younger brother Simon into the family and the two became inseparable. Spending almost every day together, Nate and Simon were the best of brothers, watching out for one another as any protective siblings would while getting into small bouts once in a while like any pair of brothers would. It was a healthy home life, for as long as it could have lasted. As the years went on and other kids his age began to capture and train pokemon, Nate preferred to work in the dojo with his family, and it wasn't until Simon got his first charmander that Nate finally decided to start as well. As he turned seventeen, Nate had begun his pokemon training. Taking in his first pokemon, a Wartortle named Riley, Nate took on a part-time teaching position in his family's dojo to help his father out, along with spending the other half of his free time training and visiting other places nearby within Kanto. Just as well, Simon would come with Nate on these excusrions, the two of them having the time of their lives visiting new places and spending their days working together. After two short years of this, however, the other regions began to decline into a sort of depression, then two factions began to form and spread across the area which made it harder to travel around--these were later known as Lux and Nox. As this became more of an everyday issue for the Strauss family, their business began to decline and Nate was getting less and less chances to teach, then deciding to go out and find a new pokemon to busy himself with for a time. This time he wouldn't take his brother with him, so young Simon was left behind to wait for his older brother's return. Though unaware of it, Nate returned a week later with the worst timing. As he arrived back in Saffron with a new Haunter added to his pokemon roster, the young man hurried home to discover his family's dojo had been set ablaze. Without a second thought he called on his water pokemon Wartortle to help him fight off the flames, but his parents and younger brother were nowhere to be seen. Impulsively running inside, Nate had to know if anyone was inside the building, but could barely make it past the engulfing flames. During the commotion he managed to find Simon in his room, but had arrived too late to save him--the young boy died beneath the collapsed roof with his loyal charmander by his side, and Nate was dragged out of the building afterwards when officials arrived on the scene. Nate's right eye was gouged by falling debris upon trying to retrieve his brother, while his back was burned horribly and left scars that remained from that point on. It was unknown what had started the fire, but a string of arson attacks had followed in the city in the weeks afterward and were thought to have been caused by Nox insurgents. Nate's family found him in the hospital directly after the incident, when they'd left the city overnight to visit Cinnabar Island and came back when they'd heard what happened. They believed that Simon's pokemon might have been what caught the fire, but Nate refused to believe his younger brother would let something to foolish happen. Without knowing what to do with the remains of their home and the loss of their son, The Strauss family was broken up and Nate separated from his parents. Nate spent those next few years blaming his parents partially for what happened, not being able to accept that perhaps it was Simon's mistake that caused the fire. At the same time, the thought that followers of Nox were the ones to blame kept him going forward, and if anything, it pushed him to later joining Lux at age twenty-three. The war had been thrown on his doorstep when he lost his younger brother, and he refused to believe anything else might have caused it. Now years later, at 27 years of age, Nate has worked his way up to officer status within Lux and has become an albiet changed man. He's never let go of his hatred for Nox and what they do to innocent people caught in the crossfire of war, but he'll never forget what happened to his younger brother. Nightmares tend to plague him as a cruel reminder of what's happened in the past, but despite that fact, he tries to become the better person for the sake of his late brother. Nate wants to keep going no matter what, he continues training in martial arts and venturing from city to city to avoid the Lux/Nox conflict, though doing his duties in the areas he's needed in. Nate hopes that one day the conflict will end and everyone will find peace again, but he knows that that won't be happening anywhere in the near future. Nate desires to one day take on a leader role within Lux, and hopefully save as many people as he can from the violence of the war. OCCUPATION Black Belt. Nate started out as a pokemon trainer a little later in the game than most, while he dedicated his time to training in the various martial arts with his father and younger brother. After taking on a part-time teaching role at his family's dojo, he was able to get more into training in the nearby areas of Kanto, but left after the incident with Nox. Though his passion is to travel and see the world as he works with his pokemon, what he loves most is taking time to practice his fighting and self-defense skills. ALLEGIANCE Nate's allegiance lies with Lux, where he's been working towards his current position as an officer for the faction. Though he wasn't interested in taking any sides in the war when he was younger, he was forced to make up his mind when the tragedy of fighting hit too close to home. His life was caught in the crossfire between Nox and Lux, and although he had no desire to join the bloody feud, he took Lux's laws to heart and joined their side to oppose Nox and their terrorism.
