LUX: CANDICE “I CAN HEAR THE HUNTER’S HOUNDS, FAR AWAY, FAR AWAY.” |
FULL NAME Candice Amelia Hale. No nicknames. BACKGROUND Candice was born twenty-six years ago in Slateport City on January 2nd, to two scientists who worked at the shipyard. Her parents were almost always busy so the first four years of her life were mostly spent with her grandfather, who she adored. Some of her earliest and fondest memories date back to this time, spending the days with him around the market, or just playing at home with the Zigzagoon that belonged to her grandfather. Life was steady and uneventful, but peaceful. Her grandfather was aging though, and a few days after Candice’s fourth birthday, he passed away of old age. His only pokemon, the Zigzagoon that he had owned, had bonded strongly with Candice so her parents let her keep it. The family remained in Slateport for one more year, and in the city that had suddenly become so lonely, that little pokemon was the only thing keeping Candice in good spirits. The three of them moved to Snowpoint City, relocated because of her parents’ work. Though the two adults preferred the warm temperatures of Hoenn, the climate in northern Sinnoh agreed much more with Candice. After her grandfather died, she started seeing large cities as scary and unsympathetic places, but the small town was perfect for her. Everybody knew everybody, and with the woods in the backyard and friendly neighbors next door, Candice thrived in this new environment. Years passed, and she grew up playing with the other kinds at lake Acuity or in the pine forests. However, she tended to stay away from the shipyard. Candice never showed any interest in her parent’s line of work, or school for that matter. She was very average when it came to academics (baring english, which she excelled at), and Candice yearned for the stories her grandfather used to tell her instead of the ships and machines and numbers that her parents dealt with. She lived in a winter wonderland, and dreamed of fairy tales and never-ending forests and diamond dust falling outside of her bedroom window. Her parents were worried for her since she seemed to have no direction in life other than to dream and to play, but let it go on account of her being quite young. They were right - Candice had no direction, until one day she went on a walk with her Zigzagoon at Lake Acuity. She had always been curious about the cave in the middle of the lake, but her parents stressed to not go in it. And even though Candice reluctantly listened to them, she spent many evenings standing on the shore of the lake, looking out on the water and hoping to catch a glimpse of whatever lived in there. She swears to this day, that when she was twelve years old, she caught a glimpse of Uxie exiting the cave. Candice was awestruck - and this was the real start of her pokemon journey. She was enamored with Pokemon, and caught a Snorunt the very next day just outside of the town. Her parents didn’t let her set out on a long pokemon journey, but when school was out she was permitted to travel around Sinnoh. This, of course, made her journey take a good many years since she frequently had to return home, but it also allowed for ample training time in between school vacations. And though Candice never aspired to take on the Elite Four, she became a strong trainer in her own right. During her secondary schooling, she was offered a position as a gym trainer in the Snowpoint City Pokemon gym. From here, she worked her way up and after graduating from school, was offered the position of gym leader. It was a perfect solution for her. She could stay in Snowpoint, had a steady job that she loved, and her parents wouldn’t worry for her. For a while, things were great. Her world became very small though. Candice didn’t leave Snowpoint very often, electing to stay in the little corner of the world that she loved, and became rather detached from everywhere else. So when Lux arose, she paid them little heed since life more or less went on as normal for the small, fairly anonymous town. At least, until Nox moved in. Candice resented their presence, but was very uneasy of outright opposing them. She first and foremost wanted to protect the civilians, and that meant doing whatever she could to prevent fighting. So Candice stood aside, took it upon herself to protect the civilians, and even stepped down from her position as Gym Leader to avoid conflict. It’s something she regrets to this day. Because when the Battle of Snowpoint happened, Candice realized that she didn’t have the means to protect everyone, and Nox didn’t have the ability to drive back Lux. Snow turned red, bodies froze on the ground, and her winter wonderland was shattered. Her cheerful optimism died on that day, along with her father and many she had known as friends. What was there left to do but take a side? Snowpoint had been dragged into the war, and Candice wasn’t about to throw her lot in with Nox. Not after they brought her town into this conflict. So with nowhere else to go, and with no way to fight back, she relented to an invading force for the second time. Now though, Candice refuses to be idle. She’ll work with Lux only so far as to protect Snowpoint, nothing more, nothing less. Because even though she doesn’t like them, doesn’t trust them, the former gym leader will do anything to prevent another Battle of Snowpoint. OCCUPATION This is a bit difficult for her. She’s not technically the gym leader anymore and doesn’t fit into a specific class particularly well, so Candice just considers herself a Veteran. ALLEGIANCE Lux. Her heart really isn’t in the conflict, but Candice is Lux by default in the interest of protecting Snowpoint. When Lux conquered Snowpoint, she finally sided with them to prevent anymore slaughter. To be honest, she prefered the way things were before either faction arose, but sees Lux as the lesser of two evils. TRAITS |
