FULL NAME Jaren Tolliver Devry. Goes by Tolliver/Tollie since he hates his first name. when he does fundraising work or gives speeches, or really, when he's not with trustd friends, he goes under the alias Noah Wakefield BACKGROUND Born twenty years ago in Blackthorne, Jaren lived his life under the shadow of dragons. His father tamed dragons and worked part time as an engineer, his mother was a stay at home mother to Jaren and his older sister, Kara. Unfortunately, his home life was marred with early incidents of violence. Jaren's father treated his wife much as he treated his dragons, like someone to be fought, conquered, broken, and tamed. And while his sister was sent off to a prestigious boarding school when she showed signs of musical talent, Jaren grew up with his family, home schooled until the age of 8, then set off with a Pokemon at 10. For his first several years, he was stuck remaining near his home, lest his mother need him. Jaren tended her injuries, and sometimes tried to intervene on her behalf- which consistently failed. He grew bitter and warped over time, and developed a public persona, Noah Wakefield. Noah came from the average family. Loving husband working a 9-5 office job, loving mother raising her children. He made up an entire story and, for years, he lived it. By sixteen, he had ceased trying to defend his mother. He was sick of her constant cowering and wailing, sick of defending her only to have her fail to speak up when their father began talking down to him. In his eyes, she was the agent of her own misery. He began to blame her for the entire situation. And then the war started, and he cut ties with his family entirely for several years. Went off to Hoenn, grew up, joined up... Noah Wakefield still exists, albeit only when he's Speaking. But unfortunately, the twisted mind behind Noah, the one that still blames his mother for starting all the conflict, remains. And as his influence has grown, so has his ego, and so has his cunning. Jaren now lives nearly full time as Noah, particularly while speaking for Lux. In fact, he's played a large role in the development and fortification of Jubilife- not in the physical sense, of course, but in terms of rallying the people and gaining support for the Lux cause. OCCUPATION Though Jaren considers himself too classy to associate with common forms of gambling, he has been known to take large bets in some rather selective areas. These, shall we say, help fund him. He also acts as a sort of Speaker for Lux. ALLEGIANCE Lux. Law & order & justice- oh, and admiration, fame, and money. What's not to like? TRAITS |
POSITIVE TRAITS: ▪ An excellent speaker ▪ Has a good memory ▪ Can memorize long pieces of literature / etc ▪ Solid and unyielding in the face of oppposition ▪ Dedicated to the cause | NEGATIVE TRAITS: ▪ Never accepts blame for his wrongdoings ▪ Doesn't believe half of what he says ▪ Lies often- the entire 'Noah' act ▪ Might be starting to develop an issue with alcohol ▪ Disowned his mother and refuses to speak to her when he visits, although she's heartbroken at this. He's no protector of the weak, let's leave it at that. |
LIKES: ▪ Water types, blue Pokemon ▪ His father, who provides advice and reassurance that makes him feel older and more confident than his years ▪ Public speaking. SECRETS: ▪ He's hit his mother once. Backhanded her like his father always did. He doesn't sympathize with her, but it made him feel guilty. They haven't spoken since, and the more she apologizes for angering him, the worse he feels about it and the angrier he gets ▪ He actually likes a wide spectrum of guys but his father would see him dating someone more masculine than himself as making him 'gay' (which he doesn't really consider him now). Can't disappoint daddy. ▪ There's still a seed of insecurity beneath his carefully crafted confidence |
