LUX: Dorian Knight I look for miles but not a face is friendly then suddenly a hole opens up in the ground , the bottom of the hole is a raging fire. I try to jump over but there's no way...the next thing I know, I'm going down |
FULL NAME Dorian Crichton Knight. Rare instances of DC or DK, but behind his back, he's “DiCK”. BACKGROUND Dorian is a Kanto native, born in the heart of Saffron on November 26. In his eyes he had a normal childhood, but to everyone else he was “that kid” or he'd be told he was “from the wrong side of the tracks”. Most of his life was highly alternative to that of other kids. His father was very rigid and tough on him, bordering on abusive on the psychological and physical spectrum, always criticizing for never living up to these invisible standards he didn't know about and disciplining him for his failures. Considering he never really had friends, Dorian didn't know any different than what he grew up with. His mother was emotionally vacant, though he does recall instances of her defending him when his father came at him when he was younger, but after a while she left Dorian to fight for himself. He never understood why that was at the time. Looking back now, he understands it perfectly. His teen years were better. His father was the same as ever, but the years of perfectionism placed on him made Dorian realize his father was far from his own standards he applied to his son. And if his father ever came at him, Dorian was quick to fight back and more often than not, he won. Now it was his turn to defend his mother when his dad decided she was the weaker, easier prey to go after. By seventeen, dad split after a particularly violent encounter with his son. The years of fighting your own father and the perfectionist mindset left Dorian a very strange young man who had remarkable self discipline with anger and trust issues. He was happier alone than with people who considered him their friend. He soon got used to providing for a broken mother who quietly resented her son for scaring off her husband. She grew in a different way than her child. Instead of becoming brave, strong, emotionally stunted and capable of dealing with trouble, she collapsed in on herself, giving way to constant worry and pessimism, passive aggressive behavior and blaming everyone else for her trouble in life. Dorian adjusted to this new form of abuse and did his best to take care of his mother. Unfortunately, being responsible for a parent causes a whole new level of stress that he wasn't prepared for. His perfectionist nature faltered and he was often angry at everything because nothing was ever good enough for his mom. Habits began to arise. Bad ones. Dorian picked up smoking and fighting and by the end of high school, he embraced and fell perfectly into the stereotype of rebel without a cause. While he didn't claim anyone around him as friend, a teacher he respected had suggested he learn some self discipline and manage his emotions better. It was a shock since he felt very much in control of himself, but if someone else noticed his flaws, then perhaps a change was needed. Improvement had to be made. Saffron was home to a famous Karate Dojo and he joined up soon after he had this realization of himself. It was here he found two things he had never known before: Structure and Pokemon. Odd combination, sure, but it was what it was. He knew of Pokemon, sure, he had seen people with them all the time and he often bullied and pulverized kids who fought with animals instead of fighting each other. He wasn't a very good kid and on some level he knew it. Still, Pokemon didn't make sense to him. His family never had one as a pet, his father could not care less about having an animal in the house, mother never spoke against the man of the house and Dorian didn't dare ask for anything when dad was around. Now they were everywhere and he had to interact with them. He wasn't afraid per se, but it was weird having them in his space. Because of this, his first couple of months of training was sparring with the gym's Fighting Pokemon. At first he fought dirty, like he always had when he got into fights. The Sensei however put a quick end to that with a very brutal and punishing lesson. Dorian took his licks like he always had from his father and had expected to be berated and kicked out, much like his father had done while he was growing up. Instead his Sensei taught him to respect others so he could respect himself when it came to confrontation. This is where structure was employed and he strangely loved it. He made good progress, learning to get along with Pokemon and respecting them. In a lot of ways he respected them more than he did people. He saw that they were just creatures there to help, protect and serve and that they too could be abused and treated badly. He had seen what Pokemon were like when mistreated and what he saw were violent and untrusting animals. Much like he had been. They didn't have a voice to speak up and rarely did they fight back against their owners. Much like his childhood. But he did have a voice and he used it to kick his father out of the house and in turn he became almost exactly like his old man. The structure of Karate tempered his anger and sharpened his patience and tolerance. It opened his mind to so much more than what he knew growing up. And though he was still tough and walled up emotionally, he was becoming a better person. Pokemon helped open his heart up to something since he clearly felt he couldn't trust people. He liked where his growth was taking him. Within the year he had earned his black belt and as a reward for his progress, the Sensei allowed the gym's prized trainer to become his partner. This trainer was the one that had toughened the young man up more than any of his other trainers and rivals and he was more than happy to accept having him by his side. It just so happened the trainer was a Hitmonchan, which meant Dorian now had his first Pokemon. Mother didn't like that idea very much and in a turn of events, she kicked him out for breaking father's rules. He took it in stride and he left home with his meager belongings and his only friend. He didn't quite know what to do with himself other than wander Kanto. He didn't aspire to be a Pokemon Master or Breeder or anything of the like. Hitmonchan was a good companion and he was still new to the world of Pokemon. At nineteen, he hadn't really planned out what he wanted to do with his life, he just took care of mom and trained at the Dojo. So wander he did, living off the grid and surviving alone. He'd battle from time to time, just to keep Hitmonchan's skills sharp, but the two largely kept to themselves. At least for a while they did. Dorian discovered a thirst for increasing his knowledge of martial arts and searched for a new Dojo. This time he took up the law of Bushido, keeping in line with self discipline, but now adding chivalry and righteousness to his calling. Another year passed and he became a well versed Samurai. As another gift for accomplishing such a feat, his master gave him a fossil belonging to the Dojo since its inception. The reason? Because he was the first student in over twenty years to desire the way of the Samurai. Dorian didn't really know what to do with a fossil, but he cherished it as an heirloom until he was told that fossils could be returned to their original state. This gave him a mission to travel to Pewter City to have his fossil brought back to life. Along the journey Dorian made a bond with a Growlithe that was much the loner like Dorian and Hitmonchan had become. As they drew closer to Pewter City, a Poochyena caught site of Dorian's Growlithe drinking water from a river that it had claimed for itself. The resulting chase and fight was noticed by the more mature pair of Dorian and Hitmonchan, creating a massive fight against the small Pokemon. Poochyena was determined to not go down without a fight and Dorian wasn't going to let it get away with attacking his only friends. In the end the Poochyena exhausted itself from fighting, passing out still trying to take down Dorian. He mercifully took care of it and let it rest by his fire and eat his food. A mutual respect formed between the two and he let it tag along, teaching it self discipline and to not be such a tenacious and hot headed beast. As they finally made their way into Pewter City there was news that the group that would become Lux had slowly began forming, but he didn't pay much mind to the growing power of the group. Things were still peaceful enough and it didn't affect his life at the time. He turned in his fossil to the museum and was surprised with a new Pokemon named Kabuto. Within three years Dorian had found himself with only four Pokemon. A terrible collection to any respectful trainer or breeder, but to Dorian, each one of his Pokemon were his closest friends, all carefully trained and bonded permanently to each other. He spent another year wandering Kanto, giving each of his Pokemon personal time to grow and become closer to one another. The only remarkable thing that had happened in that time was his Poochyena had evolved into a Mightyena, something he felt had come from he Pokemon's still hot headed nature and desire to be bigger and stronger and better. Much like Dorian himself always sought to improve himself in every way. Dorian felt his Growlithe remained the same due to they had met each other the way they were now and change didn't need to occur. It's loyalty was much like his own and he respected that. Kabuto was still far too new to everything and remained the small dome shelled Pokemon. He had seen pictures of what it evolved into and felt like Dorian had turned to becoming a Samurai on his own terms, Kabuto would become Kabutops on its own terms. Four years alone with Pokemon made Dorian slightly off as he saw his Pokemon as reflections of his own growth over the years. Whether he's right or wrong in his estimation no one will ever know. He still felt Hitmonchan was more like his trainer as opposed to the other way around. Now that he and his Pokemon had spent some quality time together, Lux had fully formed and Nox was just uprising. News was spreading like wild fire and among the first battles came word of an accomplished Pokemon Trainer leading the front lines against the freedom fighters. TV news showed this heroic trainer to be none other than Dorian's own father. Shocked and feeling old flames of embers of anger dance to the front of his mind, Dorian remembered wanting to join the opposing side just to defy his father. Instead he planned carefully by researching both sides and found Lux to actually be truer to his calling of discipline, order and perfection. Seeing news of his father also showed his old man had cleaned up, turned sober and at least didn't appear to be the same man he once was. His mind made up and really having no choice any longer as Lux was now affirming its iron grip over Kanto, Dorian joined Lux's side. Through the organization he received a full roster in the form of two Pokemon. One was a Gallade, given to him due to his officers seeing how much he enjoyed swords, figuring the bladed Pokemon would make bonding easier. Dorian wasn't too comfortable being given a Pokemon “just because”, but he made the best of the situation and tried accepting it into his “pack”. The second was a Quilava. Not just any Quilava, but the meanest, most rebellious and ill tempered thing he had ever seen. While the Pokemon caused him trouble right off the bat and was unruly, he felt an odd gravitation towards it because it reminded him of how much he hated his father and what a creep he had come to be because of it. Gallade and Quilava were not Pokemon he had bonded with like his others, but he was in the big leagues, he couldn't act like a dumb kid who wandered his young adult life and didn't care about battles and training. He had to get on top of it right away and things were bad at first, but he eventually got the swing of it. He felt the Gallade was supportive and more experienced with war than Dorian was and they soon got along just as good as the rest of his team. Quilava however... ...Three years passed and it's still disrespectful, but when it comes to battles and war, it knows how to take care of itself. Just like he always had when his dad started in on the family. And that's why he has never given up on it. That wasn't the case for the other Lux soldiers, they abandoned the Pokemon when they found it wasn't perfectly controllable from the get go. Because of Dorian's efforts, the Quilava tolerates him, but respect is still being earned, if slowly. During these three years up to the present, Dorian has never once encountered his father. But seeing the battles and taking part in them personally, he hasn't seen one fight where there wasn't a casualty. It could be very possible his old man died in one of these battles. He keeps his eyes open just in case he and his father cross paths, but considering he always knew his father was weak and violent due to his shortcomings, he doesn't hold much hope that he's survived as long as he has. Closer to the present, rumors started that Dorian obtained a very special katana in a highly controversial way. His response was he didn't “obtain” it, but that he crafted it himself. War has toughened Dorian far more than any of his recreational training. He's almost a machine when it comes to orders and missions. He's more distrustful of people than ever before due to spy activity. He's drawn further within toward his Pokemon since it's his team that has kept him alive all these years. That and his belief in a system that Lux is trying to build. Most may have ulterior motives or joined because they had no choice, but if martial arts and discipline has taught Dorian anything, it's that once loyal, you remain loyal. He believed in the cause when he made up his mind and he believes in it just as much since that day. He's no seasoned veteran, but Dorian is definitely a dangerous lone wolf in the ranks of Lux. OCCUPATION Lone Wolf. While Dorian has served under Lux for a few years now, he's not buddy-buddy with his fellow soldiers. He's very much a capable person on his own as long as he has his team of Pokemon. Granted he'll never take on a skirmish on his own, but if he tried, he'd get pretty damn far when it came to sneaking/infiltration, setting up traps and distractions and targeting the head of a squad. During a battle, Dorian is first to jump on the front line of a fight, but during the down time he keeps to himself and stays quiet. ALLEGIANCE Dorian has a firm faith in Lux that what they're trying to accomplish is good for all the right reasons. He likes order, he likes peace, he likes laws and regulations. The chaos of Nox, destroying light houses and starting blood baths because they lack the discipline it requires to follow orders is offensive to Dorian. He could care less if Lux has some bad tendencies, just like he didn't care if fighting back against his father ran him off and made his mother hate and resent him. The end justified the means and that's Dorian's belief in Lux. TRAITS |
POSITIVE TRAITS: ▪ Defends the weak/trains the undisciplined/guides the directionless. ▪ Hardworking, dedicated trainer/soldier. ▪ Resourceful/survivalist. ▪ Neat, orderly, disciplined. ▪ Loves his Pokemon more than anything. | NEGATIVE TRAITS: ▪ Escalates to violence frequently. ▪ Sarcasm/quick witted responses. ▪ Dislikes other people greatly. ▪ A soldier at all times. ▪ Smoker. |
LIKES: ▪ His Pokemon. ▪ Studying martial arts. ▪ His “special” katana. ▪ His own self improvement. ▪ Traveling. | DISLIKES: ▪ People in general. ▪ Bullies and undisciplined jackasses. ▪ Winter/snow/cold temperatures. ▪ Guns and bombs. ▪ Messy things. |
SECRETS: ▪ War has brought Dorian back to his more violent/bad side. He smokes again, but now he bullies the bullies and the idiots who think they're top dog. What he has seen over the years makes him feel like he's back home and if it weren't for his Pokemon, especially Hitmonchan, he'd probably completely revert to his old self. ▪ Guns are not his thing. He plays like they're just not for him and that he prefers swords, but truth is his father used to have a gun and on the really bad nights, he'd take it out and threaten him and his mother with it. Guns are very much a bad thing in Dorian's eyes and even war won't change his mind to use one. ▪ Dorian has never been in a relationship with a woman. He doesn't talk about women and he doesn't feel the need to make up stories about exploits that don't exist. He remains highly vague on the subject if it's brought up and thus no one has ever found that he's been single since day one. ▪ He may be good at training his Pokemon, but a lot of his training prowess comes to looking to Hitmonchan for answers. If anyone knew just how much he relied on direction from his Pokemon, they'd say Hitmonchan was the real trainer. Thankfully he trains in private and “discusses” things with Hitmonchan before every session so no one is wise to his lack of skill yet. ▪ Dorian has a secret desire to run into his father some day and hopefully join him on the battlefield. Not to reconcile or because father and son fight for the same cause. No. He wants to orchestrate a horrible accident and watch his father suffer for the years of abuse he was put through. This desire wasn't his intention when he first joined Lux, but he's rolled the idea around so much in his head that he longs for it to happen. |
