The battle of the Whirl Islands was in full swing. A fine number of Lux troops stormed the isles and conquered what they could in preparation for the hundreds of raiding troops to come later. Not all of them would help through pure battle though. Many shall be dropped off to preform more stealthy actions for the betterment of Lux (whether they win this fight or not).
Shirley was one of these agents of betterment, hired by the Lux army to do some infiltration. According to them, the Whirl Islands housed a Team Rocket base and it was his job to get in and get some information on their workings. Well not just his job, he shared this mission with a young girl. I think they said her name was Ivy? Shirley wasn't really paying attention, he was too busy thinking about the helicopter ride over at the time.
It was, naturally, worse than anything he could imagine. He didn't mind flying on a pokemon, but for some reason flying in planes made him more nervous than a patrat on the ocean. He saw them as giant metal death traps that could easily crash at any moment, and frankly helicopters were no better. He did his best to keep a cool expression on his face and not look worried, but the tightness of his seat belt as well as the nervous tapping of his purple boots would probably say otherwise. He didn't talk during this flight, just kept his eyes forward and tried not to think of the likely hood of his painful burning death via helicopter crash.
Lucky for him, there was no crash. The helicopter landed safely near the North side of the islands near a cave entrance. With the speed of a Ninjask Shirley leaped off of the helicopter and enjoyed the feeling of solid earth beneath him. He didn't get much time to enjoy it though, as he would quickly notice the fighting that was taking place not so far away. They needed to move before the battle could move toward them. He looked to his partner in this and nodded toward the cave entrance, quickly sprinting toward it in an attempt to avoid trouble. He would stop just within the cave mouth to wait for his partner.
