Bebe sat comfortably on the fourth floor, streaming an old show on her laptop while her mind was elsewhere. Sometimes it wandered to the ever tempting lottery corner, but mostly it dotted around the different tv shows which were broadcast here. And once, just once, she thought about what was going to happen here today, why she was here. There had been a tip – which side gave her the tip, she really can’t remember – that something was going to happen today, and that it would be good if she hung around. And if they wanted her hanging around, it wasn’t hard to guess what that something was going to be.
Wherever her mind was, her eyes stayed watching her screen. At the moment it showed a re-run of that old Rack ‘Em Up Records show (refreshingly unrelated to Lux) where some silly girl seemed to mishear whatever her cohost said. When she was younger, Bebe used to openly claim the girl was stupid and deaf, but she had since then decided that it must have been some kind of act. No one was born that silly.
Act or not, Bebe tired of Tanya’s voice and muted the show. Then she checked the time. It looked about right. Any moment now and it was going to start. “’Bout time,” she mumbled as she shuffled in her seat before bringing up a new window on her laptop and another.
